Hi we have decided to travel to France in our motorhome for the first time in July this year. There are 2 adults and 2 teenagers (15 & 17).

Has anyone got any advice on a good region to visit? We are thinking of spending the first 5 days in and around Paris but don't know where to go from there, would like to pick a region and camp sites that have pool/ lake or beach nearby and something for us all to do, but don't want it to be too busy with smaller kids.

I assume that you will be in the main summer holidays?  There are loads of lovely parts in France.  We have visited Limousin which is lovely but quieter with really nice freshwater lakes.  If you really want pools/beaches etc then the West Coast is ideal.  I would suggest the Vendee or south of there if you want a good chance of warm/hot weather

For the first time to France I would definitely go to the Dordogne, centred around Sarlat. Loads to do for adults and kids and plenty of sites to choose from.

My sons loved the Ardeche area (around the Vallon Pont d'Arc area) - and we went there many times.  The last time they both came with us was when the eldest was eighteen and they brought a lot of friends down to join us - so we had seven teenagers staying in pup tents on our pitch.  It was a real area for teenagers - lots of activities for them to enjoy, including an exciting river with rapids, rock ledges to jump from into the river, a canoe trip down river with an overnight bivouac, and caving, canoyining, paragliding, etc around the area.  We all used to float down river, through the rapids, on polystyrene bodyboards.  There are other nearby rivers such as the Ceze with cascades, such as the Cascades de Sautadet (where there is a nearby campsite of the same name) and lots of lovely village markets for mum - and bars and restaurants galore for everyone.

It's a long way to travel if you only have two weeks and five days of that around Paris,  but if you have the whole of the school holidays then you could include it in a 'grand tour'.

We still love the area and were on the Ceze again last year, and in fact we now store our caravan in the Ardeche area.

Another option, and yet again one my sons loved (and still go back to) is the area around Lacanau on the west coast of France, which is a real surfing area - and therefore appeals to teenage surfers (and equally when those surfers grow up and are in their thirties!).

    Hi Valda

We are going a little south of Lacanau this year staying at Camping Eurosol.  The surfing appealed to us as we have teenagers.  Any tips for areas or places to visit gratefully received.  We enjoyed the Puy Du Fou in Vendee.  Many thanks
