Good campsite 3hrs down from Dieppe?

Hi All,

Our first trip to France so it's all a bit daunting!

Ferry booked and it arrives into Dieppe at 14.00 and we'll then be heading for Rouen and Chartres and then down towards the Med.

Any good recommendations for a good campsite as an overnight stop? Doesn't have to be fancy, we prefer CL style anyway, but not too far away from the main road network?

    I would be looking at a 4 pm stop at Camping Le Pre de l'Eglise at St Remy sur Avre,  near Dreux. It's about 2 hours from Dieppe and you asked for 3 hours, but pushing on for the third hour lands you at Chartres, and the site there gets such very mixed reviews that it's not the ideal place for your first night on your first tour of France.  I hope it all goes well for you.

    Rambouillet southwest of Paris. Good site alongside main N\S route, not far off road either.

    We have used La Ville-aux-Dames, Les Acacias, about 3 hours south of Dieppe, and, on the route "south".

    We are going via Dieppe and travelling to the Loire Valley in June, our 1st site is at Camping Les Rochers des Parcs near to Clecy in Normandy appox 2.5 hrs travel from Dieppe. I have booked our 1st night there and hopefully it will be a good enough site to stay for a few days.

    Thanks for all your replies. I think we're going to book in at https://www.camping-olivet.org/ for our overnighter. Looks nice but to be honest as we're arriving late on and leaving early all we're looking for is clean and relatively quiet!

    I recently used Camping Les Abrias du Perche on the way back from the Med. Its an ACSI open all year site just west of Nonancourt. 13 euros a night with the ACSI card. It is slightly off your route unless you decide to go via Le Manns but is about 2-1/2 hours drive from Dieppe. I used it in preference to the site at Chartres because it was very wet and the site at Chartres is notoriously muddy when wet.  The route I used from the Med is >here< where you will also find pictures of the site.

    Sounds a good choice of Camping Olivet. It's also a recommended stopover of CaravanTalk forum members.. Also I can second the choice of  Camping Le Pre de l'Eglise at St Remy sur Avre, We used it as a stopover. A Camping Card site as well - when we were there.

    I think you will be hard pushed to make Olivet in three hours, it is more like a 4 hour trip providing you don't get held up anywhere. Traffic round Dreux/Chartres can be very heavy. As a first timer to France I would not be so ambitious. Better to take it more slowly and not travel so far but it is your choice.
