Confusion over Vehicle Excise Duty
hi all, just received my road tax renewal for my Bailey M/H (2016 boxer 2.2 130 euro 5 ) for the sum of £235 and not £140 as I was expecting . Gov website states the same vehicle registered before 2011 pays £140 and after £230 ! but also states that this a guide only. Any thoughts

My Bailey 740 registered in 2013 has a VED of £235. I think there is a lower rate of VED for vehicles that are heavier than 3500kgs but I don't know if that applies to a chassis that was originally registered at 3500kgs but has subsequently been replated to a higher weight? All I know id that £235 a year is less than half what I was paying for my previous towcar so I am more than happy with that figure!!!

The new VED rates where the first year is different from the following years is only for new vehicles.
For older vehicles the rules stay the same, either based on engine size, CO2 rates or "commercial vehicle"
My VW T5 is a commercial vehicle and so there's one flat rate for that that doesn't seem to have changed this year unless the budget put it up.

This BBC article might help explain things. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-39224680

Our 61 plate Sprinter based 3500kg MH is £235.
Isn't £140 only for cars reg after 1 April 2017?

Perhaps worth pointing out that motorhomes are classed as light commercial vehicles for VED purposes and the road tax has not changed for this type of vehicle.
