The only thing around the caravan that needs two hands is the loo, and waste etc. I have a magnetic LED lamp that I stick onto the car. If in front locker I stick onto a gas bottle. On the door side outside light is fine. There is lights at emptying points and toilets.

OH has been out for several hours,  doing errands  for DD, so I have been getting on with those plinth pods in my workshop, otherwise known as the garage.  Wish I had a proper, heated workshop!  Luckily it has been a sunny day.

OH left me in charge of 3 loads of washing, and drying, full instructions given, just hope I got everything right and will not be in trouble later!

DS and family are getting a puppy in June, it is a combined birthday present for the children.  He works from home, and his wife only works half the week so they will have lots of time for training and walks, plus of course they have plenty of space, and there will always be someone to keep it company.

He does have to travel abroad occasionally, but his wife's Mum lives in the cottage beside their house, so can puppy/dog sit when necessary.

The puppy will be born soon, it will be from a litter of Fox Red Cavapoos, so fairly small. Dad is a Toy Poodle.   They don' t know yet whether it will be a boy or a girl.

    The children are VERY excited!

Council Tax benefit could be a bureaucratic nightmare in my circumstances where I'm self-employed and on an income that varies from day to day. This would mean they would need to assess on a day to day basis how much the entitlement was and I can envisage a huge amount of form filling for that to happen. I think I wouldn't be able to manage all that extra work on top of the work I'm already doing. So I think it's best not to go down that road. I remember a term called KISS meaning Keep It Simple and Straightforward! So I think I'll stick with my present situation which seems much simpler!  I pay the site fees and the car repair bills and don't have to worry about any household bills.

No but I think it's a lot less than I would be paying if I owned or rented property. When I was staying at the last site, it was £91 a week which works out to about £400 a month. A one bedroom flat here in Worthing would cost £650 per month and you get all the bills on top of that.

So how do you work out your tax returns? as i would expect that sort of information is needed as part of your self employment statusundecided

I did last years tax returns online. I simply completed the online questions and submitted it. It only has to be done once a year and is simple and straightforward because by the end of the tax year you know how much you have earned.

Most self employed should be able to offset some of  site fees  as expenses against tax?

    Do not  assume, research.

I would think any benefit awarded would be based on your most recent years income, and savings are taken into account.

Each year you report your income as per your tax return and that is the figure they use.  There needs to be a pretty significant change during the year for them to change it mid year.

You cannot live in your caravan for ever, is there not a waiting list in your area for OAP council housing?  Generally, these type of homes are much easier to get into than ordinary social housing.

If your income is low you could also be eligible for help with rent.

I know if you are employed, and REQUIRED to work from home, you can claim a flat rate deduction of something like £3 per week, or you can claim an actual proportion of documentsed costs.

However, if you do that then you may lay yourself open to CGT when you sell your property as it was not wholly your own private  residence.

Now, if Malcolm had an office in his caravan from which he actually conducted his self employment, then I could see he could make a case, but he does not, if anything, he conducts his employment from his car, and he is already claiming expenses for that.

People who actually sit in their LV and do something like writing software are an entirely different proposition.

Our son is a software engineer with a very large company, he works from home all the time, but that is his choice.  His company are happy with that as it means they can have him available often 18 hours per day, to liase with employees in the U.S, India, Australia and Europe.

He provides his own office space, they provide him with computers, a second phone line, and a high income, he cannot claim any tax relief as it is his choice.

He does have a desk in anoffice somewhere, but only goes there twice per year.

Full day today. Out at the Opticians to pick my new frames. How much?surprised  Then the library and trawling charity shops as Mrs.WN wanted a mirror about 3 foot square as she wanted to try to draw a self portrait. Eventually found one. Then to doctors to sort out prescriptions and food shoping came afterwards. Home to cook lunch as needed to take MIL to same Opticians for eye test. New lenses needed. How much?surprised Then home for a coffee before admiring Self portrait of beautiful wife (without wrinkles naturally). Then doctors for early evening appt. Back for tea. And breathe.....

just packing to fly to Gdansk tomorrow for few days, for an incredible £19.98 return per person (that's nineteen pounds 98p - in case you thought I'd put the decimal point wrongly). Then an Ibis budget hotel for 30 euros for a two person room per night.

haven't a clue what's to see in Gdansk but who cares?

Enjoy it anyway, I'm sure you'll find a Pole on the plane to give you a few pointers.
