We caught the Rural bus service across Madeira to Santana today. Not much when you get there, but the drive is superb!
Narrow roads threading up mountains and down valleys. We saw signs of the fires they had last year, but mostly it was lush and beautiful.
Some mist out to sea, but another hot and sweaty day. Good job the buses have air-con!

Glad you are enjoying your holiday Ian. My parents loved the island, they went every year.

Glad to hear that Mrs Huskypup has had some good news and a target date at least, and many of you are out & about enjoying the Spring Weather at the moment.
Collected my New specs this lunch-time -- all OK from that point of view but the letter from the Retinopathy Group was a tad disconcerting, some signs of Macular damage, so it's six-monthly checks instead of 12. Must tighten my Glucose control even more 'cos I want to SEE my aged sisters 100th in 13 years time

We had a great day out visiting the NT Ham House in Richmond. We had two guided tours, one was at 1 p.m. which about the architecture on the outside of the house and the second at 3 p.m. was the inside of the house.

At around that time your will about to get her first check up at the hospital which is the point I would suggest as a starting point. Depending on the particular hospital information is usually advised that you sleep on your back for the first six weeks to avoid putting pressure on the joint. That was the worse part of my experience. They usually make you wear compression stockings for six weeks (yes even the men!!!) which are not easy to get on and off. You shouldn't sit anywhere with the knee higher than the hip. Having said that motorhome/caravans are usually good because the seating is a bit higher than at home. Don't forget you can always seek the advice of your own doctor. Usually after six weeks is the point when things start getting back to normal.

Dropped in on DD today as she is still off work, although her throat is not sore, she can hardly speak.
Turns out she was sent home from work on Wednesday to prevent her coughing over everyone, was so bad on Thursday she could not even phone in to say she was still ill, she e mailed instead, and today when she did phone, they said if that was her feeling better then it was best she had stayed home!
We took some bits for her kitchen and OH was helping her to order the drawer kits when she suddenly shouted for a chair as she was feeling faint. After some head between the knees treatment she recovered enough to be installed in a comfy chair, it was all rather worrying.
By the time we left she was feeling more steady and assured us she would be OK. Will be checking up on her later as her husband is not home right now.

Back home from our brief sojourn up the Wirral coast. Amazing what 4 nights away can do, here's hoping Husky and Mrs.HD can get theirs in soon.
Saw a lovely saying on a birthday card yesterday which went:
"If a man said something in a wood,
And there wasn't a woman present
Would he still be wrong?"
Mrs.WN wanted to buy it for my birthday but the surprise is spoilt now.

Glad you enjoyed your short break. I can't believe we were away at the beginning of the week, it's all gone by very fast. I like small breaks.
Hope Kj's daughter feels better soon, that throat bug sounded quite nasty.
Have a good weekend everyone.

I don't know if it has changed since my operation but MK provided us with all the extra equipment on loan which included a seat extender and a toilet frame which was very useful in the early days. We were even invited with fellow pre-op hiphoppers to a meeting with the nursing staff to explain the process and post op care. Funnily enough when Margaret had her heart bypass, which I considered a far more serious operation than my hip we got no help but it was done in Oxford not MK.

It was back to work for us yesterday after our day off on Thursday. We had excellent weather for our trip to Ham House in Richmond. Nice view of the boats moored on the River Thames. After visiting the house and gardens we took a walk on the path adjoining the river. It seemed very warm all day. We had lunch at the NT cafe by the Orangery. We both had Venison stew for lunch. That helped fill the time between the two guided tours. The guided tours were very interesting and the information gained made the visit much more worthwhile. I would recommend going on the guided tours.
Yesterday was a quiet day at work. We had to go in early for my dental appointment with the hygienist. Soon after that, our first order came in, other orders came but there were gaps in between. So we used that time to visit the surgery to get a repeat prescription of my iron tablets which we collected later that evening from Tesco Pharmacy. We also went shopping at Lidl and bought microwave meals for when we got back to the club site.
We finished work on time yesterday at 8 p.m. which was unusal for a Friday evening.

I think the service in MK is better than oxfordshire David, our eldest son lives in MK and seems that the NHS service is good. In a post you said the the wait for physio was a month, my OH had to wait almost 6 months for an appointment!

We also found time yesterday for a Cornish Pasty meal deal from Greggs in the Worthing town centre that included a Cappucino coffee. They only had one pasty left so my wife got herself a Big Mac with medium fries from Macdonalds instead. Later that evening, I had a Subway meal deal of six inch spicy Italian sub with Italian bread of cheese and herbs plus a cup of tea for £3. For the salad accompaniment, I had red onions, tomatoes, black olives, jalapeno peppers, salsa, green peppers and hot chilli sauce. Delicious!

Bit dull this morning, chap came to finish the wall yesterday, looks good, at least our neighbours won't be able to park half accross our garden now!
Going on the hunt for a new knitting pattern and some wool today, think I'am going to knit something for myself this time.
Glad everyone enjoying their short breaks, feels good just to be away if only for a couple if nights. Have booked a CL to visit youngest son in his new home in Sale, hoping it will be ok, so we can use it again for visits

We'll be leaving here in two hours to do the one hour commute to Worthing to start work at 12. So another lunch in town for us for when we get a gap in between the deliveries. Anyhow, it has made a change to eat out whilst at work instead of going back to the caravan in between deliveries. After today we only have four more days of the long commute left before we are due to move to our seasonal pitch at Northbrook Farm.
We've enjoyed our stay at the Alderstead Heath club site. It's so different from the CS at Charmill Cottage. Much better facilities and the grounds seem huge and attractively landscaped. So convenient for visits into London using our Smart car. Unlike this club site, staying at the CS at Charmill Cottage often meant having to search for the site owner to pay the fee and invariably getting moans from him compared to more welcoming reception staff on the club site where you pay the entire fee on arrival and you can choose to pay by card instead of the extra journey to a cashpoint machine every week to pay the CS owner. So staying on this club site is like a breath of fresh air! It also feels less lonely as there are plenty of people around. Christmas and New Year at Charmill Cottage felt a bit dead in comparison.

Ta, Brue. You seemed to enjoy Bristol. So much to do in cities but have to admit it was great to be out walking again.
Mrs.WN looking to get away from next weekend for another. Too many appointments to be met this week. Quite fancy a trip to a CL down towards Conwy or Llandudno.
Nice surprise when we got home as appointment for Rheumatologist arrived for the week before Easter. We had been told by referring Renal Consultant not to expect anything before September. Result.

He told us that long stays were permitted on his site the previous time we stayed there, brue, and when we thought maximum stay was 28 days and moved accordingly, he remarked to us 'you seem to like moving' suggesting that he caters more for outfits that prefer longer stays than 28 days. Other people staying there were also given the same impression and many of them stayed there throughout the winter season. So he only has himself to blame if he has given everyone the wrong impression. It's his loss because people won't trust his word anymore if they have been let down.
The other problem is that when you come out of the site, there is a blind bend on a road with no speed limit making it dangerous everytime you turn right out of the site, especially if you are towing a caravan. You can't see what's coming from your right and the traffic on the road that can potentially be travelling at high speed can't see you either.
