On the new AS site don't get the "barefoot walking experience" mixed up with the "dog walk" ........laughing

I have long thought that the next logical business move for the club is into retirement homes.  They already have a brand name ( or did have!) tried & trusted by older members and some experience of wardens looking after older folk in the way of typical sheltered accomodation.  And a look around a site midweek tends to reinforce this would be a good business move.  Perhaps even some of the club sites could be redeveloped into sheltered flats.....

However the clubs rebranding to lure young adventurers makes me think they haven't cottoned on to my brilliant idea......yet.......wink

After contacting the club direct, I received the following:

    Thank you for your email.

I have spoken to the regional officer and she has advised a statement is due for release on Monday to all members.

At this moment in time, she was not able to discuss this further with me.

I hope you have a good weekend.

Monday almost gone and nothing !! again

Blip on being able to access CT over last 30 mins or so. Now 5.30pm so guess you won't hear today. Coordination between departments appears to be lacking. Why email you without having a statement ready?? Did they think no one would ask questions? My first question would be will it happen at a later date? I have other commitments to fit in!

Wasn't an issue with name change book etc etc 😉😉😉

It looks like Market Rasen Racecourse is going as well. Jockey Club advertising for wardens.

Possibly not the sites with storage facilities. We are one of over three hundred people paying over £400 a year for a few square feet of gravel. Even with VAT deducted it is still a profitable business.

    Hi everyone,

Mildenhall site has been run under the excellent management of our team of volunteers for many years.  However, as a result of no long term security of tenure, the site standards have become worthy of major investment to bring it back to Club standards.  We have therefore had to establish the viability of spending significant funds to keep the site operational in the circumstances, and having reviewed a number of options, we have concluded that it is now time for us to withdraw from the site. Although this process will take some months to formalise, we have decided not to open this season. We would like to thank all of the members who have stayed at this site over the years.

    If you were considering staying at Mildenhall this year, we can suggest some great alternative sites that you may wish to try instead;

    • Thetford Forest – 15 miles north; quiet and secluded with open glades and walks into the surrounding area
    • Cambridge Cherry Hinton – 20 miles south west; located just a few miles from Cambridge, but also offers easy access to great walking and cycling trails.
    • Fields End Water CL and Fishery , March, Cambridgeshire – 23 miles north west; a family run, adult only site where walkers will enjoy the expansive Fenland countryside. Fishing enthusiasts can also enjoy the on-site fishing in the sites’ lake. Call the site direct to make a booking on 01354 740199

I would like to ask what progress has been made in finding a replacement, or whether that is being considered.

Now is your chance to replace that site with another a little further south, how a first in Essex!

I'd like to know what progress has been made in finding replacements for all the losses from the network over the last few years. I can't remember when the last new site came on stream but it's a while ago.

I presume finding a replacement for Baltic Wharf might still be in the pipeline? I don't know how many leasehold sites the club has but these certainly seem to cause problems.

I think a replacement for Baltic Wharf may end up kicked into the long grass at some stage after the refusal of last years application.

I know it's difficult at the moment as landowners seek to get the most value out of their sites but the club seems very vulnerable on leasehold sites.  I've heard Buxton is looking like another potential loss as well

Sad to learn yet another site to close,  we can only hope the new re branded club are working hard to find replacements.

With all the new houses planned around Woodstock on land that the Blenheim Estate have sold off, I fear for the future of Bladon Chains too.😢

And a lot closer than the 23 mls to the CL quoted. Wonder why Ro chose to mention that one........

Surely the money invested in Mildenhall to bring it up Club standard would be a lot less than required to purchase another site in the area or to buy land and open a new site. Just another excuse to cross off a non-facility site from the list.yell

Nellie I think it's an AS, not a CL,  although there might be a CL attached.

Well, Ro stated it was a CL, so I didn't seek it out. Surely she should be promoting CL instead of AS sites!! It's the least that those at the CC's head office can do after all the fiasco with the web site.

Add to these possible 2 and perhaps Market Raisen too, there's the likelyhood of Bromyard Downs also going to close next year. That could well result in 7 sites lost in two years or so and only the odd AS sites being added to the site total. Not very inspiring for a journey of investment in the future of our Club.
