You'll find some CLs have metered pitches, some with metered payments others where the owners give you an allowance and you pay the difference if you use more. We've not had any problems with either and it certainly makes you aware of using someone else's power!
Always worth checking if you're not sure. I think the great majority include power in the price.

I personally think heating an awning is a waste. If time but as a previous poster has said if electricity is charged for within the cost of the pitch then it can be used as is seen fit. It's no ones business and I find it uncomfortable other members peering into other people's awnings invading privacy.

Well I've certainly seen awnings with a heater in them, in fact we have a member on here who uses one regularly. Some sites I've been on do say NO heater in awnings, one site we were on did enforce it if the owner saw you with one on, he would either insist that it goes off or ask you to leave.

How does everyone feel about people who go out for the day leaving the heating on in their unit?
What about those who get so hot on a November evening that they have to open windows?
Is it worth setting a maximum permissible setting on the thermostat? I have mine set at 18 so anything above that is wasteful

You might well use a winking smiley!! Yes, when I was younger my family would go away in November having scraped ice off the car. We did not use heating but we had a few gas mantle lights. No problem. Fast forward 35 years and with arthritis in my spine once in the caravan I set for 21C.
As for heating in the awning. we no longer have an awning. When we did, at Christmas, I might well sit in the awning for half an hour with a glass of scotch after evening meal. I would have a 2kw fan heater aimed at my legs with the caravan door open into the awning. After my scotch it would go off. What I do notice often is folk that have all the roof lights open wide throughout the evening when the temperature outside is 5 C and I think that is a tad wasteful. 25 years ago I had my father living with us as he had come out of hospital and needed building up. He felt the cold and I well remember him coming out of his bed sit room, through our sitting room where he and the family would socialise through the day and into the living area. My wife was out and I was in a T shirt with all the windows open wide to cool down.

We don't normally, if we're going out for the day, but may leave it on, in cold weather, if we're out for a short walk of 1/2 hr or so with the dog.

No, most vans are insulated to keep them warm. We have ours on thermostat at night and it rarely comes on. Yes even away last week. Don't understand the need for this heating " just because its free". Its just a reason for site fees to increase for us all because a few are wasteful. We should go to charging extra for Awnings etc to make it a more level playing field.

Ours stays on all the time under the control of the thermostat but I do reduce the temperature a little at night or when we go out.
I'm happy to be charged separately for electricity provided it's metered. It's what happens at home.

If I was running a site I would prefer no meter. If a few abuse the system then I end up charging about 30p more per night say. Sooner that than having to read meters on departure and faff with collection when I or my staff could be otherwise engaged.
I would consider it a nuisance for all

So there's a wide variety on patterns of heating use already.
I rarely have the heating on at all. German van with good insulation so don't need it. If it is on it's at the lowest power setting and switched off at night. Don't use an awning heater. Out most of the time with heating switched off
I'm probably using less power than most on the average club site yet some think I should be charged more. Cheers for that. Very inclusive

The only thing I have on when absent from the van is the fridge and battery charger. As for trying to heat an awning. A waste of time. If I'm feeling the cold, I retreat into the van.

Well if paying around 12p/kw hour I would not be worrying personally.

We often leave the heating on in the 'van whilst we are out but set low and unlikely to come on. This changes however over Christmas when temperatures are closer to 0C rather than 10C. Then it is usually set for 18C

18c is arctic, who does one avoid iced tea at such low temperatures.

We have the Alde heating, so prefer to keep the fabric of the van warm when we are out so we come back to a reasonable temperature in the van.
Overnight we use the night set back feature, we prefer a cool bedroom so set it to 13 degrees. In the morning it steps up to 18 degrees, and when sitting around in the evening we use 21 degrees.
When out, in colder weather we leave it on 16-18 degrees, in summer it would of course be switched off.
We never heat our awning, we only use a Fiamma Zip, and prefer to sit inside if it is too cold to sit out.
No problem with metered power, if it is expensive then we use gas as that is cheaper for us.
