Overnight stop Cherbourg

We're looking for a basic site for an overnight stop in Cherbourg not too far from the ferry port. This is our first trip to France with our unit. Does anyone have any recommendations please?

The municipal sites at Valognes (11 miles) and St Sauveur Le Vicomte (22 miles) are perhaps the sort of places you are looking for. Or do you want a closer site?

We don't mind travelling a few miles but the sites we've found so far have quoted 34 and 36 euro per night, travelling 10th July, which seems a bit much when all we want is something basic, however, maybe that's what we should expect to pay?

    Thanks for reply.

Terry. The prices for two people for  the two examples I gave you are €15 and €13 respectively. Both have websites for you to look at.

Camping Espace Loisirs de Colignon just outside of the docks. Come to the last roundabout out of the docks and the site is signed. Take the next slip road, left at T junc and left at roundabout 3rd exit. All well signed and it's about 1.5 miles from the docks.

Not a site I would want to spend a holiday stay on but ok for an overnight.

There used to be a very strange site at the top of the long hill out of Cherbourg called Le Pins. I don't know if it is still there but it was very handy for the Port. I wonder if Eurotraveller remembers it?

We stayed there a few times around 1990. Funnily enough we were looking at some old holiday videos the other day and there was a bit of me playing shuttlecock there with a very small daughter. I didn't realise it was no longer operating for tourers.
