Leaving late on a Sunday

Now that the caravan club has had a revamp, do they still require people to leave their sites at 12pm on a Sunday ?

As someone who works during the week I want to be able to use a caravan site all Weekend, and leave at say 4pm on a sunday.

I appreciate the sites need to make room for new people arriving, and I can see this being especially important on a Friday and Saturday, but its a real inconvenience for us weekenders ( so much so I'm no longer a member).

I'm sure this suits retired people, but I assume the revamp is to get some new blood in, and that will mean weekend only stayers. Has anything change d in this area.

(If not what do weekend caravans do, just use private sites?)

Good idea. This may be part of the "better" bit the new Club is promising. On the other hand we may find that it isn't . Anyone taking bets?

It is a long time since I was a weekend caravanner. I used some CLs but also club sites. It was often possible to stay until 4pm on a Sunday for me. Perhaps not during school hols. If I wished to stay late on a Sunday though and given decent weather I would go across to the office on the Sunday, pay for a pitch and one adult and leave around 8.30. Leaving at 4pm was, for me, neither fish nor fowl. I see no reason why a similar approach should not be trialled. If a weekender does not book the Sunday then if there is availability on the Sunday morning still let them book a pitch+1 adult (or some sum of money) and leave before 9pm say.

I'm in the club (no sniggering at the back) and I'm still waiting for mine. When exactly is "soon"? Answers to within a century please.

Could it be that your name is near the end of the alphabet? Only one letter after Y 😉

You may be able to as rule 15 allows but this is subject to site specific circumstances on the day of departure. You can't assume the right!

When I was a member, the wardens seemed very unhappy to let me stay past 12:00, it might be at the wardens discretion, but that usually meant no, or you had to pretend to be very grateful, and promise it was a one off, and be very sorry for asking. After grovelling a few times I got sick of it. The sites weren't going to be full, it was the middle of October when I last asked.

if there really was a new rule to allow 4pm that would be fine. Anyone know if that's a definite new rule ? If you grovel enough to the warden they might let you, isn't the same as you CAN stay to 4pm on a Sunday.

I don't mean to be negative, but really is it that much to ask, every single private site has let me stay on a Sunday. I do get that on Saturday or the middle of a school holiday it might be different.

If there are free pitches on the day you are due to depart, then you can stay on site until 4pm without further charges. However, this must be cleared by the wardens at all times. If the site is full and there are 20 departing and 20 arriving then 12 noon is a strict rule to be adhered to!

As an usually non user of CC sites at week ends I sympathise with those that do. Invariably they arrive late on Friday nights, so seems reasonable for them to extend their stay on Sundays if there is room. I guess that in the vast majority of times it is not a problem. We were at Lady Margaret over a week end in January with some 10 vans in the week, increasing to 25 or so on the Friday night. No problem still plenty of vacant pitches. Many did leave late on Sunday having enjoyed the long day. Good luck to them.

ok, so are people saying that usually the wardens are fine with staying until 4pm ? Is that based on actual experience or just reading the rules and saying it should be so ?

That was not my experience, and CC's might well be different ( we didn't try those).

I did stay on one site and wanting to catch a ferry asked if I could stay. I was told the site was full but they checked their sheet for arrivals times and found several not expecting to be there until after four. On that basis they said I could stop until three although in fact two was fine for us.

It is wardens discretion though and not all mighty be that generous.

If everybody starts paying for the Sunday night and leaving early then you may not get a pitch for your week.

Best to leave it as it is with wardens allowing late stats if circumstances allow. It's in the rules after all

Broadside- Have you actually turned upon a Sunday and found no pitch? If it was going to be that busy the warden would have made the 12 noon compulsory

No, but you miss the point, if it was a free for all, ie leave when they want, then obviously there would be few pitches available.
