The same Club, just better...

Totally agree with qwerty4, we were not asked for any feedback either. We will certainly know how to vote at the next AGM! The whole exercise is a total waste of money and not necessary.

the club wants a more inclusive approach for motorhomers(who personally irritate me) but are increasing in number!
Please accept my sincere apologies for irritating you LuLu2006 and / or others by owning a motorhome..... Please note that I previously had several caravans and prior to that a tent, at least the source of irritation is fairly recent ....

After reading most of this thread, someone on one quoted that 40% of membership are motor caravanners, so rebranding was needed! -- since when has 40% been enough to win any referendum, -- hell! -- 48% couldn't keep us in the EU.!

As a member we should of been able to of had a vote on the rebranding a simple yes or no .the money wasted should of been used to lower prices in the school holidays not putting them up.I just received some stickers and a letter at what cost I don't know .All in all it a disgrace I think .

How sad that we throw away a well established and internationally recognised branding and logo without any reference to the membership. Are we a club ? could we please have published the cost of rebranding. We are seriously considering membership after over 40 years.

As a large number of us don't like the "revamp" the club is putting on us due to the money cost. There are at least 2 things that we could do.
1) At the next AGM we could use our vote to remove the present
committee for what they have done.
2) We could terminate our membership and join the Camping and
Caravanning Club.
It's just a thought but just moaning about it won't get anything done.I have NEVER had any form's asking for my opinion on anything to which I would have filled in but instead I have just received the new logo stickers (no hand book yet) which will NOT be going on my caravan.
This constant waste of our money does make you see red, when they could be giving us free wifi or reducing site fee's etc

I must say i am very disappointed in the name change and rebranding and logo change and i certainly won't be displaying the new sticker in my car windscreen. Why change something that has all the heritage that the Caravan Club has? Personally i find it a complete waste of Member's subs.

The name is something most people can live with, perhaps the use of Motorhome is more to do with search engine results when potential new customers are searching for sites. I feel it may be sometime before CAMC is at the top of the search, I'm certain that the Charleston Area Medical Center, wont lose sleep over it. My biggest peeve is the colour of the logo, open the letter thinking it was another Motorhome and Caravan Show, wanting to know if I wanted to buy tickets, until I realised it was from the club. Perhaps having a stipulation to keep the colours from the recently update site signage would have helped with lowering the costs, or at least allowed the club to option to roll out new signage over a couple of years. Perhaps just changing the main office and entrance signage to include the new name, would have acceptable for the time being. Would it have matter that the 5 mph signs would still have had the Caravan Club logo on them, half the sites we've been over the majority of people don't read that sign anyway, let alone be able to make out the old logo with the speed they go. Me personally don't have a problem with Motorhomes, the only bit I hate is when we turn up on site, and think that there's loads of spaces when they are out on day trips. Like others have said, perhaps the Club should be investing in sites and possibly lowering site fees.

Re branding / loss of identity. What a complete waste of funds! Not to mention the complete lack of consultation with the majority of members. I thought it was a CLUB!

Could you rebrand Mayday breakdown too please? I find it really expensive for just one day a year cover. I can get my John Bull printing kit down from the attic if you need any help with logo design etc.
1 -
Could Rochelle or someone else please provide details of the cost of the change ......or even the cost of sending the letter and stickers to all members?
Will uniforms and signs be replaced only when "worn out" or will they be replaced simply to show the name change and new logo?
The Club information states, presumably as a reason for change, "that means making Motorhomers feel as valued as any other member".
I am now in my 15th year of membership and with the exception of occasional negative comments on this forum about motorhomes or Motorhomers such as the one made a little further up this thread and one occasion when a warden or assistant warden showed a compete lack of thought and understanding about what was needed I have never felt less valued than any other member.
Incidently, has anyone noticed that the new name takes no account of members who use trailer tents?

What a lot of negativity on this thread. I have read the first 60 entries but cannot bring myself to read the further 699 to date as I suspect they will be more of the same . I don't frequent the forum as much these days, in part because of such general negativity, which I feel is a shame as it has helped me tremendously as a new member back in 2012. Please forgive me if the majority of the latter comments are positive.
As far as the new name it does not bother me one way or the other, I no longer feel as though I am part of a Club, as in having a membership & say, but a subscriber to a company.
Having read a minority of anti-motorhome member comments on here some years ago it did make me feel as though I was not welcomed by the membership but soon learned that the forum is not really a true reflection of the membership so quickly got over it and am pleased to say I had never experience such hostility on the camp sites. I do think it is nice to have the Motorhome members reflected in the name though, as it more accurately reflects the membership and may prevent such comments as I have seen on here in the past.
As for the logo, I think I preferred the style of the old one but again am quite happy with the new one.
Regards, Roy

As I stood there yesterday with the expectant crowd waiting for this earth shattering announcement you could feel the tension rise as a large electronic screen counted down the seconds to 10.30am. Actually , it was 10.32 by the time the crowd was counting down the last 10 seconds so that wasn't a great start. Then, as hearts thumped Grenville was there announcing that we has changed our name! I stared at the other half, she stared at me and together we said" Is that it?" I think we should include the motorhomers- motorhomes weren't around in 1907- things have moved on a bit in more ways than one. We enjoyed the show and I will be there again on Friday!

Funnily enough I rather like the colours. I'm not keen on green.
I don't mind the logo either - it's not as if I'm going to spend any time looking at it or displaying it on my car or van.
It's the lack of direction that I don't like although that's nothing new. I'm hoping that some proper policies in plain English arrive soon.
I just can't shake off this feeling that nobody thought any further than a rebrand and didn't realise that actions speak louder than words

Haven't time to read through all today's posts but found it totally ironic that the rebranded letter etc arrived in the old Caravan Club envelopes😂 Couldn't make it up if you tried.

I am disappointed with the changes. Our club magazine seemed to reflect more and more in favour of the Motor home members and this letter notifying me of the name and Logo change seems to confirm those thoughts.
The new Logo is dull and boring and shows no link what so ever even with colours to the one it replaces.
Sadly times are changing and we are seeing more and more Large Motor homes trying to negotiate country lanes driven by some who do not have the skills or aptitude to drive something so big.

I welcome any initiative to evolve the club and make it more aligned with what its membership wants today, but also to make it sustainable for the future.
I have read the PR and marketing spiel which eludes to us all becoming explorers and focusing on the 'experiences'.
However, what seems to be missing is a plan of how we get from where we are today to the vision of the future. Unfortunately, apart from lots of 'blue sky' statements there seems to be very little that is tangible.
Perhaps as members we are not able to appreciate the finer points of a plan and the mind-blowing detail that may involve.
I do hope this is the case, since a rebranding exercise with nothing tangible to show for it would be a waste of the members investment.
Perhaps I am too impatient and/or cynical?

Just to have my say, my vote would have been to keep the Caravan Club name and logo.
Some further thoughts....whats next a new website?
caravanandmotorhomeclub.co.uk
(which was registered in July 2016 and is currently owned by a London brand company)
Was all this expense really necessary, for a brand change...I'm sure there would have been better things to spend £££££'s on..
I'm sure that the thousands of motorhome owners that have joined and enjoyed using the Caravan Club never thought it to be inadequately named?
1 -
Forget this , its been bugeted for, mumbo jumbo tosh,
What is the total cost for the full change ?
Motorhomes have allways been included, and cant see why someone feel this at the HQ feel they were not,
best thing the club could is is involve in tenters more,
or invest in a better fairer booking system would be good
Or support consumers when they have issues with build quality or damp issues

As an aside those that you appear to see as Old Farts and DInosaurs (my words - not yours) bring a lot to this club by often using the sites and putting cash into the coffers at times when sites might otherwise be very quiet. Do not discount our value to the club too readily, there's a good chap!
Similarly, with the independent sites I stay at, this isn't exclusive to the CAMC. However, they are providing the extra facilities that are enticing younger generations to join us in our hobby. These families are the future of the club (business). If the CAMC don't work at getting younger members, then there won't be a club (business) in years to come. Old chap.
PS. Apologies for the terrible looking "quote" in my post. Hopefully a re-branding of the forum will soon follow.

Recent "own goals" of the Executive.
1. Major waste of capital cost of Alan Rogers business
2. Fiasco of revamp of website which as delivered less than we had previously.
3. Wasteful "rebranding" following a relatively recent revamp of signage to "modernise".
Let us not forget these things when we vote at the AGM.
I am wondering how big a qorum we need for a motion to "tar and feather" those responsible.

Got the letter today out of the blue, thought at first the club had been taken over, still think it's the thin end of the wedge (like the site wifi now out sourced for profit) What next, out sourced tv connection charges?

We have driven/lived in a motorhome for 24 years & been club members for much longer. You only have to count the motorhomes on site to realise that it's been a club for all sorts for a long time. At last it's acknowledged! Good stuff!
But sorry/disappointed to receive a damp, soggy new handbook this week! The first 100+ pages are damp & wavy due to water ingress through the poly wrapping. Not unserviceable, but not the pristine book we look forward to cracking open! Anyone else experience this?

What a waste of money. You can bet members will still call it the Caravan Club so what's the point. The logo has no significance to either caravans or motorhomes. A logo certainly doesn't improve facilities. I think we are all aware that the club is for caravans and motorhomes!!!

Management can waste as much money as they like but at the end of the day most people will refer to the original name. This has happend to countless companies who have tried to change their name/image with expencive rebranding in the past and its turned out to be a waste of time and money.

Just an aside. I notice there will be a report from the Camping, Caravan and Motorhome Show tonight sometime in the 6-7pm news slot on ITV - certainly in our area (West Midlands)(just heard a between ads snapshot). Not sure if it is on the National news or the regional. It will be interesting to hear if they mention the 'change of name'.3
David
Edit by DSB: It's on ITV Midlands at 6pm - I'm guessing it will be toward the end of the programme...
