The same Club, just better...

Nobody asked me! This is a complete and utter waste of money and by the looks of it a vanity project. All notices on every site will need to changed just after they have been done and frankly as a motorhomer it doesn't make the club any different to me at all. An expensive and pointless exercise.

Hi
Reading all the replies to threads about Motorhome owners getting an advantage over Caravaners, I am starting to get confused.
We have caravanned with the Club for 25 years and have now owned a Motorhome for 5. We have always used Club sites. What have I been missing out on? We do not seem to get preferential treatment or get to reserve specific pitches when we book over the internet.
We always get a warm welcome from the Wardens and when walking round the site we are staying at, we get a friendly response to a Good Morning/Evening from other Club members. When we are not in our Motorhome we look like everyone else. Is someone getting confused about the little signs that a Motorhome user has to leave at their pitch when they go out for the day so that another Club member does not pitch up on the pitch that they have paid for?
We do not need a divide between Caravan owners and Motorhome owners. I think all the negative comments are distracting from the prime reason that the Club was set up for - being able to get away from the humdrum of general life.

Indeed Barry Thomas. We are the same from a CL point of view. I am writing to them tomorrow to express our views and concerns. Not sure what good it will do, but it is worth a try. I suggest you do the same and perhaps send them the bill for the remedial works that will need doing.
Best of luck!

Rochelle at the risk of labouring the point I will try one last time.
We have a new logo and name, deep joy. But you still haven't said what specific things the club is going to do. I asked you about what experiences and adventures meant. You have given a non reply, stating that means my experiences and adventures and the club want to improve the services you offer to help me. So in simple English what are the club going to put in place to improve the services you offer me. It's a simple question which it seems cannot get an answer. I suspect the answer is really nothing will change apart from the name.
You refer me to the website but having read it twice it doesn't give ant hard facts just airy fairy waffle. Come on it's not a hard question, what tangible changes are you making to the club.

Nairda - you are absolutely right. For many years caravanners and motorhomes have enjoyed and been welcome to use club sites equally. To be honest, I don't think we really even notice what sort of unit pitches up next to us. It's a shame that this rebranding ( totally unnecessary in my opinion) has reintroduced the "us and them" comments that had become a thing of the past.
The addition of the word "motorhome" to the club name is surely not an issue as long as all members can continue to use sites on an equal basis.

We are disappointed at the changes made and the manner in which it has been done, the members were not consulted at all and why change a winning well known brand for a new unknown one. Further you now seem to be chasing after campers, are they to pitch on hardstanding as well? It's hard enough to get one now on popular sites if there is a increase in motor homes and campers numbers it will become impossible.
This is change for change sake and will not benefit whatsoever your core membership of caravans in any way.

Well, the one thing I think we can all agree on is that the change of name/logo has generated a lot of discussion!!
It does seem a lot of "ta ra ra boom de ay" - a big announcement but the announcement is "nothing has changed"! So why change it? We all knew that people with motorhomes are members of the club. Are there hordes of motorhome owners out there who are not club members now because they thought they couldn't be? I don't think so.
So, on balance - a lot of hot air and a lot of money spent on re-branding (wouldn't be surprised if consultants were employed at huge expense) - is it really value for money? Probably not

45 years old and 45 years experience of the club.
I do not like the new branding, the logo or colours.
I will not be displaying any stickers with it on.
I don't think the club knows the meaning of diversity.
Lets just make people with folding campers feel even more excluded than they already do.
The last present my late grandmother gave me was the leather centenary site book cover. This is where my heart lays, with the caravan club. My late grandfather was buried wearing his silk club tie. Okay that's all very personal but I did feel close to the club and now I feel alienated and with no family identity remaining.
As far as the unnecessary expense of the re brand goes, I will spend the next 12 months trying out CS's and if they suit our needs I will cancel my subscription.
After all the club won't mind one jot as there are bound to be many rich but included camper van owners to take my place, churning up the few remaining grass pitches after an over night shower of rain.

I am now an EXPLORER
I explore the toilet block - usually found to be in need of refurbishment
i explore the information room - usually containing out of date information promoting attractions many miles from the site
i explore the dog walk - usually short, muddy even the dog objects
I explore the recycling facilities but have trouble lifting the lid
i explore the children's play area and discover it's too far from the pitch to keep an eye on my children
i would explore the internet but there are other people using it and I am logged out before I have logged in
i am not given the opportunity to explore my pitch as my position on it is predetermined by a white (or blue) peg.
perhaps the club should be sold to a venture capitalist who would explore and develope the good points about the club and we would all benefit.

What a waste of money. If it was so well discussed why has it came as such a shock to the bulk of the membership. I have never heard of motorhomers entertaining any thoughts that they are less well thought of in the club or are not included to the same extent as caravanners. Having read the blurb re rebranding it is depressingly pc. Imagine all the better things that the money could have been spent on. I may be wrong but I think the club is the only organisation that feels the need to do this. Every caravan site I've spent time in throughout Europe did not feel the need to call themselves a caravan and motor home site.

Complete waste of money (an awful lot of money) colours not conducive to grass/woodland of the sites, will stick out like a sore thumb in the country side. Site managers/staff new uniforms, signage etc alone will be millions. After 34 years I despair !!!!!!!

Local centre's produce a raft of literature that is all now going to have to be reworked.
As we all have other day jobs, this can only be done in the evenings so that means more late nights doing this.
I trust the club will inform centre's when they can download the rebranding artwork so that we can start reworking our literature and websites, also need to advise where this is located as the original download area's have been shut down.

Wow sums it up in a nutshell. That's what needs changing not the logo and name. It's happened now and we are to be given a new experience so maybe the above will be redundant 😂😂😂. Maybe I'll wake up in the morning and find it was all a dream, as so many have had the same maybe they put something in the water?
I have no objections to change and I think maybe it was needed but hearing thatCL's and centres are going to be out of pocket even if they spoke to HQ is awful and the only way to correct that is to pay to cover their losses, after all it will be miniscule compared with what has already been laid out and pledged for changes. More than enough to buy another site???
Cynical moi 😐

I am very excited to see the new logo and that motorhomes are mentioned in the new title.
Makes me feel more at home,,inclusive too!
Psycholigically I have often asked if motorhomes are ok on caravan sites when ringing up for information.
Now feel part of the team .
Looking forward to receiving my new sticker.

I had the same thoughts myself earlier. The flag went back on the planes

The Executive Committee were fully involved in the decision and the project, and are fully on board with this change
Clear indication then that it's time to get rid of this self-seeking empire building bunch of buffoons who have presided over two separate fiascos in the space of three months.

CMC, oh the irony, it's also the abreviated name of my employer and what we are known as by a number of our motor manufacturers.
Also makes up almost 50% of our web address

Its very sad to read such negative posts from members regarding such a positive cultural step forward.
Open your eyes, the world has changed significantly and this club is way behind in adapting to these changes. The heritage of the club must always be respected but culturally in 2017 it has to move on. Developing a more open and inclusive approach which appeals to a far wider membership is way more important for the clubs long term survival.
As an alternative to pointless negativity, existing members need to embrace this fresh approach and help build a modern club that meets the needs of ALL from across the whole of the UK and beyond.

As a fully paid up member of THE Caravan Club for the last 40 years I object to the imposition of a change of name of the CLUB without any consultation!!!!!!No one asked me if i minded!!!!!

totally underwhelmed by it all. I guess most customers at sites will not even notice the change.

Just a couple of questions. I don't really expect answers after all I am only a member.
Do you think that this change will halt the precipitous fall in membership that has been seen in the last few years?
One of the main aims is to make the organisation more inclusive.
What steps are going to be taken to make it more inclusive?
And
Specifically what groups have been previously been excluded? Please feel free to answer in terms of Age, sex, Sexual orientation, Ethnicity, geographical location indeed any other group of individuals whose demographic you feel the organisation should move to embrace.
