What are you all up to

Malc, you didn't answer the last part of my question

The plan is to leave one car at my cousin's address. He has space for it on his driveway. So we'll drive the Smart car to his address and then get a taxi back to Charmill Cottage to hitch up the caravan to the Shogun to move to the Redhill site. Then we'll drive the Shogun to my cousin's address and collect the Smart car to return to the site leaving the Shogun on the driveway.
The Scotland trip is four months away so I'm hoping that I'll be much better by then.

We won't be erecting the awning for the touring holiday of Scotland.

I hadn't thought of that but now that I've booked Redhill, I might as well stick with that even though it's an extra twenty mile commute. The advantage being that it will be quieter i.e. no noise of planes landing and taking off from Gatwick airport runway right next to the site. On our days off we can visit National Trust properties in that area and also it will be interesting to try out a new site which we haven't tried before.
We will have to leave at 11 a.m. and get back at 8 p.m. on working days which isn't too late to have some time to relax and have our evening meal before going to bed.
The difference will be that we won't be able to get back to the caravan in between deliveries.

Just got our first order today, a Macdonalds order for delivery to a regular customer in the Goring area. As it's already nearly two p.m., it could be the one and only lunchtime order today!

Malcolm, if you knew you had to move off your present site why did you not book Gatwick ages ago, 50 mls commute is a bit rich just to deliver food. OH used to do 60 mile each way when he worked but he did at least get his fuel paid for and was at work in the office for 8 hrs in between.
On the topic of your summer holiday, good for you taking one in the first place. I tend to agree though with others, France would be nearer and possibly cheaper but Scotland is lovely, I would however say that 2 nights in each place is not enough, I would encourage you to do less sites and more stays, that way you will return feeling rested rather than shattered.

Is the site at Brighton not open all year? Or what about a CC CL?
A 50 mile commute each way sounds a lot.
Must agree with TG and others that 8 sites in 2 weeks touring Scotland is about 4 sites too many, you will have very little time to sightsee or visit any NT properties.
Which sites are you planning to use?

Yes. I think we'll probably do that.

Had an appointment with new dentist today ! More x-rays,
but full display & explanation ofthe problems ( 2 broken teeth ! )
and the moves proposed to fix them !! Both to come out
another to be filled, and all spring cleaned. Strange thing is this
will all be done "In House" with no hospital at all, and while its
Private in total its only about twice the cost of the Tin Roof
( crown) the locum fitted and the appointments are already made !!
I dont think my neighbour / pal ( who did the reccommending) is
getting any percentage back
Brians feeling quite chipper now, 'cos it'll only take
5 weeks in total til he can look a roast pork roll square
in the bun again !

Malcolm, are you not even considering finding a better job?

,, Hmmm, I think the problem with ALL the delay's was that the return fare's being SO cheap ,enticed the 'world and it's dog ' .Plus the EXTRA security on both sides.
I am considering either going to take the more expensive " Flexi-Plus" ,or just going at normal crossing prices mid 'week !! Oh YES ,the restaurant meals at " Chateau Cocove " are wonderfull .

I didn't know, Tammygirl until yesterday when the site owner told us we would need to move off the site next week.

We were going to go away this weekend but have postponed until next weekend as the van was away getting the exhaust fitted still a weekend at home wont do any harm

For what reason do you have to move Malcolm?
I still think it's madness to commute 50 miles for the renumeration you get. When I work I resent every penny I have to pay to get there and return as well as the time it takes. It really brings down the hourly rate earned. I also resent that I have to find a considerable sum in terms of hours to pay for the privilege because tax and NI is deducted as well. You have also added to your income needs by acquiring your Smart car surely there must be a job in a supermarket/diy store or similar, where both you and your wife could earn the minimum wage each instead of two people doing one job that doesn't .
I too agree that you ought to rethink your schedule for your Scotland trip. It's a great country go explore we took six weeks a few years back and even with a motorhome we wanted more than 2 night stops 😉. You'll be ready for it when it comes round.

The site owner didn't give us any reason, he just said he needed us to move off the site next week for at least two nights perhaps because of some limit to length of stay.

I was going to do some gardening today but stayed up very late watching a George Clooney film and regretted it this morning! So have spent a day gathering paperwork and filing it in some new folders, feel quite pleased to have got this job done and thrown a lot of old stuff out too.
Will resist organising Malcolm, I'm sure he'll come up with another CT challenge soon.

Brue, I think that we have all, in turn, tried to organise/give advice to Malcolm out of concern for him, but, as nice as he is (and we all like you Malc!) he doesn't seem to want to know! Most of us would not want such an insecure future, however, it takes all sorts, I suppose!

Malcolm, what more can be said, you do seem to fall foul of everything.
Members on here have tried very hard to give you good advice but you just seem to be hell bent on ignoring it all.
Stop letting people take you for granted and walking all over you, if not for yourself think about your wife. Change your job, look at moving to a permanent home, I know you say its expensive there, so move somewhere else, you cannot live in a caravan for ever. Your recent health scare should make you think long and hard.

Malcolm
Surely the reason is that it is a C&CC CS site which will have length of stay restrictions to same as CL's?

Moreton in Marsh for a week, first outing this year few problems after short winter break all ironed out first day. Lucky with weather very mild and what a great site.

Glad your problems sorted. Have a lovely time. We've yet to plan our first outing of this year I'm beginning to champion at the bit, especially as it's feeling good spring like here. Finishing some diy and checking when no one needs us 😂😂

That's right. We've been here on Charmill Cottage long enough and the arrival of a letter from the hospital caused the site owner to see us to deliver the letter and that's when he discussed about us moving next week.
Northbrook Farm CC site opens on 17th March and that will only be three weeks away from next Thursday. The site at Brighton, although the commute from there to Worthing is only 15 miles, it's a much higher price than The Redhill site. The Smart car can do up to 68 miles to the gallon so commuting the 50 miles would cost less than a fiver each way. It's a short term solution. Once Northbrook Farm Club site opens we'll be within 5 miles of Worthing town centre. Furthermore, the club site at Redhill has all the facilities including laundry room, toilet block etc. so better than finding a cl locally with only basic facilities.

The problem, Ian, is that employers that offer job contracts on an employed basis don't necessarily offer you a job just because you ask for it. You have to go through their selection procedures i.e. application form, interview and then waiting for them to decide whether or not to take you on. Often enough, having gone through their procedures it is highly likely that they will choose not to offer anything.
My wife went through this procedure several times to get a job at minimum wage and failed everytime. She tried for a job as care assistant, then as a checkout operator for Tesco. She was refused both times. Beggars can't be choosers! The job on self-employed basis with dinner2go is better than no work and no earnings at all!

Yes I agree that my profits for the two of us are on most days less than the minimum wage but even the guaranteed minimum retainer of £25 per day, it works out as an additional £650 per month income on top of my pension. However, most days we earn more than the retainer. Last month I received £1200 in delivery fees. Granted I have the overhead running costs of the car to come out of that money. Nevertheless, these costs have come down substantially because of using the Smart car. 60 miles to the gallon is a huge saving in fuel compared to the Shogun's 20 miles to the gallon. The lesser use of the Shogun will also mean reduced cost of servicing and repairs.
