ABM - Muchos sympathy. I had yet another appointment with the Driller Killer today. I now have a full 12 days off before our next liaison.
I now have total empathy with my old car that had to go as things fell off or stopped working. Am hoping for more understanding from Mrs.WN.

We have a new Lidl locally although it's 8 miles away, the design and lay out have been much improved. I use Lidl sometimes but I discovered they use a lot of palm oil in their food products so I'm a bit picky about what I buy. If you read up about palm oil it's not a good story. But they are generally always cheaper than the main supermarkets.

We have 2 Aldi's and 1 Lidl here, I use both at times depending on what I'm looking for and need. Asda and Tesco are my other supermarket choices. We don't have a Sainsbury's or Waitrose and the Morrisons we have isn't a big one. When I'm away I still use the same shops as I find Waitrose and Sainsbury to be expensive same as M&S. I will use Morrisons if its a big store as I think they are VFM.
Breast screening today, girls don't you just love it. Then food shopping. After lunch made a start on OH's wardrobe sort out again, we are determined to get rid of half of what we have, pretty sure we don't wear it all or need it.
Much milder today and we had some sun for a few hours, think Spring is trying to make an appearance. Crocus and snow drops out, daffodils about half way up but no heads showing yet.

Even though M&S are a bit more expensive I use them quite regularly as they seem to care a bit more about using things like Free Range eggs and not using MSG.
In addition their products such as Sausages do not tend to be filled with Wheat, which I can't have. Look at most other supermarket products and you'll find wheat used as a filler. M&S are best by far for me. They use Rice flour or Potato Flour/Starch where many other suppliers just bung in wheat.
Most of our food is freshly cooked but when away in the van we do find we eat a M&S ready meal for our first night, such as their Wheat Free Lasagne, which is actually very good. Funnily enough we also buy some German sausages from Lidl as their Bratwurst has special laws about what products can be put in them.
We always used to look at the ingredient labels, now we pay even closer attention.

I do shop in Asda but most of my meat, in particular, is bought from Lidl as I generally find it better.For example: I like a good rump steak for flavour, If I buy from Lidl it is generally tender - from Asda it is like shoe leather.

We have a lidl as our nearest walking shop. I'm a great label reader and only buy if I am happy 😉. I dislike palm oil in everything and it's devastating effect on existing native species when they're cleared to grow it. I reckon their fruit and veg are always freshest around there are often new varieties we have had the purple sprouts, delicious and I'm not a sprout lover, and a black leaf 'greens' name escapes me but it's good. Much of the produce is seasonal and proudly displays the union jack. They have limited range of organic things too. I agree layout can be strange. Went to one in Lytham St Anne's and it was first class, ours is small and no chance of expanding where it is.
I am not a cheap shopper I prefer to buy less of something good if that's what it comes down to. I know I've always been lucky and not had to worry too much about budgeting but I consider what I eat is my fuel so if I want to be well I must eat well. After all you wouldn't put watered down fuel in your vehicle cos it was cheap and expect the same results would you? We spend so little of our income on food these days compared to years ago it's cheap 😉

Couldn't agree more Bakers.
Last weekend I bought a free range chicken from our local farm shop, twice the price of the supermarkets, but boy was it good. Plump and allowed to grow to a later date. A few weeks ago I bought one from Tescos as the farm shop had run out and to be honest I think I wouldn't bother now if I couldn't buy the better one.

All of our shopping comes from Booths (in Kirkby Lonsdale) - small enough for the staff to know you and big enough to stock a wide range of quality fresh food ( as well as stapples)'
Fresh fish, meat, fruit, veg, dairy, deli stuff, bread etc.

Oh !! CHAOS at the tunnel today !! One cancelled going out ,so one hour delay !! Then on the return tonight ,my booking of 17.20 ,was re-sheduled for 20.50 !!
, , .LONG DAY !! Just got home now.Diesel in my usual 'Intermarche' was 1.23 (so did'nt fill up) on the A16 at Total it was 1.33. Oh well ,win some ,loose some !!

We would love to do more shopping in Waiteose (and M&S) but our budget dictates that we restrict our spends.
The quality and choice cannot be faulted.
I presume as a former exmployee, David, that you may get a discount?
We live in a fairly "up market" area, so both Lidl and Aldi here have a fair selection of branded goods, but we have tried their own brands and mainly cannot taste the difference.
We have all the major supermarkets within about 3 miles.......Tesco, Asda, SaInsbury, Morrisons, Waitrose, plus M&S, Aldi and Lidl, so we are spoiled for choice.

We'll be moving to another site next Thursday. We've booked to stay at Alderstead Heath Caravan Club site, Redhill for 21 nights as we cannot stay any longer at the Charmill Cottage site. We looked at Gatwick but found it was fully booked for some days during the next 21 nights from next Thursday so that only a short stay there would be possible. Of course, the difficulty is that it's 50 miles from Worthing and therefore a long commute but now that our working hours are shorter, it makes it more possible. After the 21 nights are over, we'll be moving the caravan to our seasonal pitch at Northbrook Farm.
We've also booked a two week touring holiday in Scotland following the National at Sandringham. We'll be visiting 8 sites spending two nights on each site. One of the sites, North Ledaig, we booked by phone as it couldn't be done online.

There's thick fog outside our caravan window this morning. We've just had some cereal and tea for breakfast and there's bacon and eggs with mushrooms and tomatoes cooking on the hob.
After a day off yesterday, it's back to work today.

Malc, could you explain why you plan to travel from the South coast of England all the way up to Scotland ( presumably at low 20s mpg) when you could nip over to France for a relaxing 2 week break. Surely it would be far cheaper in site costs and fuel and far more than the additional cost of ferry and insurance.
Do you intend to carry/unload/erect your awning etc every 2 nights.

It is a bit of a cheek calling North Ledaig a caravan club site, when it is affiliated. From the name you would think you could book it as normal. Most of them tend to be called touring or caravan parks.
Can't fault your choice Malc, that part of Scotland is great and I am sure you will enjoy it. However, too much driving and not enough stopping for me. We did do multiple quick moves when we were younger, with tents, however now find we have to take things a little slower.

Just a query, as you have 2 cars now and one driver, how on earth are you going to manage to move everything to Redhill? Only asking.
Surely, there must be sites nearer to Worthing, CL's, Commercial etc that would suit your needs?
Your Scotland trip sounds good, but, as others have stated, it's a lot of driving especially if you're not well but you will know how you feel better than anyone else!

Catching up, been reading all the posts,
must make a crumble some time soon. Just back from a shop at Aldi so much cheaper than elsewhere although we have good farmers markets in the area and an excellent farm shop which I like to support too.Hope you are feeling better Malcolm, as that's going to be a very long commute to work for you, from Alderstead Heath.
Have been sorting out things for the caravan, we emptied out most of the stuff at the end of last year, and now I can't remember where I stored some of it! Cleaned the aqua rolls and now cleaner soaking in the pipes ready to flush through later.
Looking forward to the weekend, got a trip to see the snowdrops at Evenley Wood Garden planned.

Yes it would be a lot nearer from here on the south coast but we're booked to go on the National in Sandringham which is a bit further away from the south coast and we'll follow on from there to Scotland.
