Irish toll roads
Not sure if this has already been covered ..... We're going to Ireland in September and wondered how other people had managed the toll roads, especially the one from Dublin port which you've got not alternative apart from driving thru' the middle of the
city! All the others can be paid for as you use them. Any previous experience would be very much appreciated!!

I've just come across this old thread and notice there are no replies .... We too are off to Ireland later in 2017...
The M50 is Dublin's outer circular toll road and as Ultima says, is unavoidable, there are no pay booths and it is all done via e-flow, either for account holders for regular users, or via payment outlets nationally, ( no good if you are driving onto a ferry ) or via the web ( again of little use on an 8 hour ferry to Liverpool )
Can anyone that has used it advise how it is done ?

I've no idea, I've not used the Dartford crossing either..but thats in the UK
There seems to be a pre pay option, but does that work for vehicles not registered in Ireland ? In any event we wont always have web access once we are there... It says download an app to iphone or Android... I have a windows phone.. Also I have no idea what part of the M50 I will travel on or how much till after I have done it....
I just wondered if anyone had actually used it sucessfully, or indeed managed to avoid it and drive through the city ?

Ive already done the google thing thanks Vulcan, and it doesn't, thats why I asked on here.....
There are hundreds of paypoints where you can pay, non of which you can access whilst on a ferry.. I dont know what our journey on the M50 will be, if any, so I want to pay after the event, and thats kind of tricky when I'm going straight onto an 8 hour ferry trip across the Irish sea..
I expect the best plan is to email the eflow people in Ireland to see what they suggest..
I was just hoping someone may have actually done it ( paid ) or avoided the M50 toll road with a route through the city..

These might be helpful,
http://goireland.about.com/od/travelinginireland/qt/tolls_m50.htm
It looks as though you have the option to prepay on the website or just drive through and wait till you get a bill.

The easiest way to pay is to sign up with eFlow and they will take the payment from your debit/credit card about a month to 6 weeks later.
I live in Northern Ireland and it works well for us as we only use the M50 once or twice a year. I add my brother in laws car when he comes over from Wales and have had no problems.
Hope this helps

Thanks Marz, if only the e-flow website was as easy to understand ;-)
Their system doesn't seem to have considered those who are driving on the M50 toll road and straight out of the country onto a ferry where you cannot get to a payzone point or have no internet....
Does an a/c with e-flow cover all tolls in Ireland or just the M50 ?
It does seem an awful lot of trouble just for one trip

Check this out https://www.eflow.ie/i-want-to/pay-a-toll/ You can pay for a toll ahead of time or after you have passed through the toll within 24 hours I think.
I agree it is not Tourist friendly but the M50 is the major route around Dublin and the hold ups when they had toll booths were horrendous.

As I said earlier it is similar to the Dart scheme, I confirmed it with a friend who has prepaid online. It won't recognise your GB plate regarding looking up the make and model in the online payment, but allows you to carry on with the prepayment by choosing the class of vehicle in association with the reg number. Credit lasts for 6 months.

Just go into any garage in Ireland which displays the eflow sign. Pay them in advance of your trip home and the system will hold a credit on your car reg. I have been using a garage near Dingle for a number of years and it works fine. The garage has a special efow printer which they type in your car reg and the amount you pay. It then prints out a receipt for you. This is for the M50 toll, for the other manned tolls just go through the manned both and pay!! It means you can pay the M50 toll on the day before you travel home without worrying about looking to pay just before the ferry. I also think the garage in Dublin Port has a machine so you can pay there but don't quote me.

Hello
I received this reply from eFlow which might be of help.
Hey Valerie
You can make advance €3.10 payments towards the licence plate via https://www.eflow.ie/i-want-to/pay-a-toll/
Please enter the licence plate number, devoid of blanks or spaces.
As the vehicle is not registered in the Republic of Ireland you will have to manually enter the vehicle class in the field mark “vehicle class”(this is located under the message box with the explanation mark advising you that the “vehicle does not appear to be registered in the Republic of Ireland”) Select,
If your vehicle is a motor car please select “Motor Cars and public service vehicles with seating for up to 8 people” in the “Vehicle class” box, then click on the yellow “continue” button which will bring you to the next page on which will bring you to the next page on which you enter the amount of journeys you wish to make payment towards, if you continue to have problems please provide me with a phone number on which you can be reached and I will contact you via phone & take the payment,
Charleen
