Frustrating

Is it just me or is anyone else frustrated with the caravan club!?  I've given up and joined the camping and caravan club. Their website is so much more user friendly. The search facility for the cc club is useless unless you are using your current location. Looked at booking holidays abroad,  but according to the caravan club they were unavailable. Not according to the site direct or the c&cc.  The app argggh, well @#$%, unless I'm in my current location.  The club websites don't work on post code either. Ive got 2 weddings to attend this year and neither website nor app can give me a site near the location of the wedding.  2 Sites now booked within 10 mins of the venues with the c&cc. I don't want to leave,  but the Cc club are making the decision easier and easier as time goes by. Surely this can't be just me :0 (

I agree with the comments on the new site, as to booking sites abroad we go direct to the site it's easy enough to find a site by using the internet search and noemally a lot cheaper to

Wait till you want to amend a booking or speak to them. Their booking system is useless and sites not as good as CC in our opinion but good luck.

Hi Unners, Don't you have Google in Derbyshire?

Seems to work OK for me. I have made several bookings for this year all without any type of problem. As to sites near your wedding venues, I assume you know where the venues are. Search on the map this gives the location of the sites. You can see if any are near your venue. If not that is hardly the fault of the CC, they can't have sites everywhere.

I wondered if the problem was with the CLs search?

Even that seems to work OK on the map. Now at any rate, and the OP's is a current post. I agree it could do with more names in the data base, as it does not recognise a lot of obvious places. However, all the main camp sites are there, so you can search CL's within 20 miles of each of those. Also main towns like Gloucester, so again you can search CL's within 20 miles of those.

There are many reasons I would imagine to leave the club, poor standards on sites, wardens being unhelpful, behaviour on site by fellows campers, club sites having poor facilities, the prices being too high or not good value. To me these are the most important considerations above all but to leave because of the club's website is very puzzling. I've booked a number of club sites recently and no problems at all, are you saying that booking all club sites is a problem or overseas? (You do have a full stop in between those sentences). I don't understand the reference to using your current location? You mention booking by post code, no you can't but why not search by map instead? or are you just saying that you know the post code of the wedding and nothing else?

It's your choice but it is puzzling to me that you put a website over the real work of the club which are the sites themselves, and as others have said there are other ways to book.

Steve, that way you are only seeing this Club's sites and CLs. If you type Camping Gloucester into Google you will see all those and all the others sites as well.

The best way to find a campsite in the area you want to tour is to use our own friend - The Google Browser. It will show up all sites in the area.  From there you can select which location you favour.

Using google earth or google maps will show you the exact location of the site.

Using any of the camping organisation's sites book or even worst the CC website to search for sites is restrictive.

    Cheers.................K

I always back up a google search with using www.ukcampsite.co.uk, here you can filter down your search as well as location.

EasyT, that method works fine for CC sites and CLs but I prefer to search by map - in this case as soon as you tick the CL box, the option to apply filters diappears

    Very very frustrating

I don't search that way - only once a few years ago for a CL and it worked fine but no filters.

DD was after a list of CC sites open all year though. That is easily available.

The CC website is not going to win any prizes but the booking system has always worked well for us and is years ahead of the C&CC one.  if we have had problems the telephone service is fast and friendly.

As for continental holidays I would not dream of using the internet. If you ring you get helpful staff whose knowledge can often reduce your costs and suggest alterations or alternatives if need be. This point though applies to both clubs. I may be old fashioned but find too many people are only interested in using the internet and not willing to use the phone even when it is preferable.

It's all very well telling people to use antiquated methods to book a site but many site owners are away during the winter so that doesn't work too well if one is trying to book a holiday now.

ET I think the point dmiller is making, is they might pick up emails while away, but will not be able to answer the phone.

The phone might be antiquated but clearly some prefer it. Personally I would use the internet every time, when there is a choice. However, there is no right or wrong, just individual choice.

To me the telephone is not antiquated but far better for many tasks, it is horses for courses and both the phone and the web have their place. For a complex thing like a continental holiday it seems far easier to phone and you can get advice and assistance.

    Hi everyone

I am new to the community and will hopefully be able to answer any questions you may have.

In regard to the website, I can understand all of your frustrations we are experiencing some technical issues with our online search tool which is generating warped results. The relevant department are aware and are investigating the issues.

I do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause currently. However as many have said we are more than happy to speak to you in the contact centre and are all a friendly bunch, you might even get the pleasure of speaking to me!

    Hi Fisherman

The 2017 sites directory is having some exciting new updates this year, and we are expecting to start sending them out next week. Therefore you should all start to see them late Feb to early March.

We can't wait to get them at the head office too!
