Weekend Stays - Restricted Picthes
As caravan club member we are not OAP's who own motorhomes that can travel anytime of the week, instead we can either travel early evenings or weekends.
Due to our travel times we continually experience a problem whereby we arrive onsite on a Saturday by 12:00 and the better located pitches are all taken by motorhomes, we have a caravan & awning. The motor homes all arrived Friday lunch time and then all depart Sunday lunchtime, four have left whilst writing this post...now a fish has left.
Yes it needs to be fair for all members but surely there needs to be some way to give priority to preferred pitches to members who have longer bookings rather than the two night weekend stay? If you are on site for a longer time and its not easy/possible to relocated then something needs to be done.
Something along the lines of:
-> Booking duration > 5 days = preferred locations
-> 2 day bookings arriving Friday = 'short stay locations'
This may not be a problem most of the year but during school holidays and smaller sites this should be considered.

What would you consider a preferred pitch?:
near to or far away from the facilities - ditto dog walk/play area/entrance/etc etc.
There will always be pitches that you prefer to others. On many occasions my wife and I say to each other "Why on earth have they chosen that pitch".
TBH if we were staying on until the following Saturday and we didn't like the pitch we were on, we would move. We have done it before on many occasions - anything for a quiet life

This none OAP motorhomer is happy to have whatever pitch is available, on whatever day, at whatever time they arrive! Will even tolerate those with more specific requirements next door, as long as they don't whinge too loudly.

All your booking reservation does is reserve you a pitch. It does not reserve you a specific pitch. Only in exceptional circumstances, such as helping those less able, or with a certain sized outfit, large or small. Other site providers do offer specific pitches, may suit OP more.

Short stay locations are no different to any other location on cc sites, its what you choice from any available pitch at the time you arrive,if you arrive for a longer stay and do not like what is left and it is the busyest time ie w/ends then you can always move on a Sunday when all the OAP?s go

None of this is tempting me back to Club sites. But keep trying folks!

Currently the way the Club manages it's campsites is fairly simple and straightforward. Sites and lengths of stays are booked on a first come first served basis. When you arrive you have a free choice of what is available. Once you start interfering with what is a straightforward system if could well not work the way you had hoped. The "other" Club has a rule where certain sites have a minimum 2 day booking restriction (you can take a chance and turn up and stay for one night) and it is not liked by members. We are what you class as OAP's but we generally stay Monday to Friday as it's usually quieter. However if we are on a two week tour taking in several sites it's good to be able to book an overnight stay even if that is on a Saturday.

No I wouldn't agree to any restrictions. We all have different touring patterns, some like weekends, some like midweek, some like Saturday to whenever. There must be a host of preferred patterns. One group can't have preference over any other as we all pay the same membership fee.
Also who would decide what are 'good' pitches? What I prefer is different to what others might like.

no please stay away, more pitches for the rest of us

Sorry, can't see the logic of what's being suggested, or the practicality of it. What would happen about 3 day stays arriving say on Thursday or Saturday? And what happens if you don't like the selection of pitches available if you're on a longer stay?
No, let's leave things as they are, choose a pitch from those available when you arrive. It seems to work pretty well for most members, although more regular users of CC sites than us may see things differently.

What the OP really needs is a MH. Set off and arrive Friday? Hop from pitch to pitch as required? Take off in a huff elsewhere if favourite pitch is in use? Luckily, you don't have to be an OAP to own one. The Club welcomes these along with caravans and occasional tents as well.

Once again we have someone wanting to change the existing system to suit him/herself due to personal circumstances. First come, first served works for the majority of people. Just be glad the opportunity to book a pitch, any pitch, was there.

I also note the OP 4 years ago was complaining they could not bag a pitch without a caravan to put on it. Plus they have never been told how to pitch correctly on a CC site, very, very, very unlikely in my opinion. How they know what day other folk arrive is beyond me. We almost always spend a week on each site and arrive / leave on a Sunday. This seems fairly popular amongst us OAP's as the roads are so much quieter. So the OP would see us leaving on a Sunday but we would have been there for a whole week.

When we start a trip, we prefer to go on a Sunday, as said, the roads are generally quieter. After that we are usually 4 or 5 nights on each site, but when possible we will try to avoid ariving on a Saturday, due to the often poor choice of pitches, and will avoid a Friday if it is a longer journey.
As OAPs, we don't do weekends only, nor do we do midweek only unless it is for a special purpose.

It seems it's us MH-ers who cause the problems because we insist on arriving Friday midday and Ieaving Sunday midday and grab the 'best' pitches while we're there. How very dare we? We should know to stay at home or wild camp over the weekends leaving the sites free for caravanners who work. It matters not that we might be mid-tour, we simply shouldn't be allowed to do it. Err, just how does the OP know when people arrived, as Brue queried?

I think you are being very uncharitable Husky to somebody who cannot get a pitch that he likes on a site and despite being a caravanner for over 25 years and having used CC sites before has not been informed how to pitch his caravan to the peg. Chap has definitely had a bad time. All the more so Husky as it is you motorhomer wot nick the preferred pitches on a Friday before he can get on site!!
