Campsites in Ireland near Dublin, Cavan, Sligo

Sailing from Holyhead to Dublin in June, I cannot find many sites north of the country, Have you any which you can recomend, or any advice for taking a caravan to Ireland.

    We used this one just on the edge of Dublin. There was a good bus service into the city just outside the site. I used the bus and got off at Temple Bar which was a good spot for a walk around or shopping. Use the web site for finding more sites or ask for the brochure which you'll find to be very useful.smile

    We also used Camac Valley, very similar to a  CC site.

    We had a wonderful trip to Ireland a few years ago.  Although we took the northern Cairnryan Belfast crossing we did head down to Sligo and on to Galway, Doolin, the Burren and the cliffs of Moher.

    Near Sligo, the campsite at Sandhill was very good, right on the dunes at the edge of the sea.  If you get down to Doolin, Nagles was also an excellent site, right by the harbour with a local dolphin and a boat ride to the foot of the Cliffs.

    We found caravanning very straightforward.  The roads are a bit narrower than we are used to in Europe, but not enough to cause a problem. Road surfaces were good.

    although you might think by the name and the web-site map nothing would be displayed, if you type in Towns or Counties in Eire you will get some results.

    We stayed at Camac as well. I found several commercial sites listed in the C&CC handbook. You don't have to be a member to search on their website.

    There is a beautiful site in Co. Fermanagh in Northern Ireland that would suit you for Cavan and Sligo. Excellent clean site Rushin House  http://www.rushinhousecaravanpark.com/joomla/

    Have you a particular reason to go to Cavan as it is a very quiet area with flat countryside. The beauty of Ireland is round the Coast - inland is for travelling through!

    Thank you all for the above replies. Camac looks ideal for Dublin. 

    we do have a special reason for going in the direction of Cavan. will put Rushton House on the radar.

    I found the one on top of the hill on the outskirts of Sligo quite spectacular - sunsets stunning etc.  The sand dune on is all very well but the high road for me!  Achil Island is worth a visit too - one site there was a bit traveller type - but the one in the centre was good - at least they let me stay there before it opened for the season - so I didn't actually try out the showers!  I should have kept a record of the other sites but I found them from the Tourist - or Visit Ireland Booklet.  There are some great sites along the Atlantic coast tucked into the Sand Dunes.
