Germany Mosel, Rhine, Black Forrest, Bavaria
Currently planning to tour the Mosel, Rhine, Black Forrest and Bavarian regions of Germany in 2018. We shall travel via Holland (Rotterdam), both outbound and inbound.
Has any member done a similar tour before? Can you recommend any good sites in both countries, that are easily accessible to large caravans and motor homes? There maybe six units going and any assistance would be most appreciated.

We have done a couple of trips:
If we do a night crossing we then drive directly to Zell am Moselle, the campsite is right on the river and quieter than the Rhine as there is no train noise.
One of our favourite Black Forest sites is Trend Camping at Wolfach.
Bavaria is such a large area it would be difficult to recommend somewhere as that would depend what you want to see/do.
In Holland we usually stay at Delft Houte or Resort De Arendshorst. Both are within reasonable travelling distance to the Ports

Larochette in Luxembourg makes a great overnight stop or for a little longer. Camping Kirchzarten up the valley from Freiburg is great for Lake Tittisee and the southern Black Forest. Terasencampingplatz Herbolzheim is another great site and quite close to the north south motorway and handy for Triberg. On the Rhine there's a lovely little site high on the hill above Niederlahnstein in the grounds of Burg Lahneck and just a few kilometres from Koblenz.

We dI'd the Mosel and Black Forest as part of our continental visit last year. See the story section HERE. Please ignore the map at the top (don't know where that came from) and I still need to add photos from the later bit of the holiday - the German bit is complete.
We use Camping Bergen (between Cochem and Koblenz) for our Mosel bit of the journey. An excellent campsite on the banks of the Mosel. Lots to see in the area, including Cochem, various castles (inclu ding the famous fairytale castle, Burg Eltz), Bernkastel, Koblenz - at the bit where the Mosel joins the Rhine. etc. We have visited the site many times and can't imagine going elsewhere on the Mosel. Personally, I prefer the Mosel to the Rhine - it always feels much more homely!!
In the Black Forest we used Camping Belchenblick at Staufen. Again see my story for places to visit. Some of the pitches in the Black Forest tend to be on the small side. When we booked, we specifI call asked for a large pitch and all was fine.
Hope this might help.

Mosel is a much nicer river to explore and stay as not so commercialised as The Rhine BF and Bavaria excellent we have travelled there for 35 years the last 13 with the caravan. See here for more info any questions please ask glad to help. Two excellent sites in the BF Trend where Oneputt stopped been there 3 times Alisehof 5 times. Both situated in the centre of the BF which is one of the prettiest parts. Can give you a route using ACSI CC Sites if you wish.

Saarburg is a lovely little town, close to the Luxembourg border and near Trier with its Roman history. The Saar region wines are also very nice Too! Great site just outside the town. Annweiler on the 'Wine Route' is another gem of an old town there is a small site in the town, basic but quiet. As others have said the Black Forest and Bavaria are stuffed with sites!

I've used the Newcastle to Amsterdam (Ijmuiden) route and then on to Rodenkirchen (Cologne) beside the Rhine. Lovely town in its own right (outside the environment zone) and easy travel into Cologne.
Then on to Trier and Saarburg (3 good campsites) and a lovely small German town. From there you can easily explore the Mosel and Saar areas.
It's a while since I've been as far as the Black Forest and I'm afraid the thing I remember most is the rain!

Normally it's June but this time because of family reasons we will be crossing the Channel in late August and will spend a good chunk of September 'over there'. Our thoughts are on Luxembourg, the Moselle valley (first time) and returning for a few days in Holland (first time).
Any site recommendations (apart from those mentioned on this thread already) especially from Trier and down the river? It's likely we will stop at Echternach and then Saarburg for a few days and then have ten days or more further along the Moselle.
As seniors with a caravan, all we need are sites that are reasonably quiet, at least 10amps, decent size pitches, near a town/village, pleasant view, good walking routes...and some sunshine! And any wine festivals in late August/September?
Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
Thanks.

If you get to Cochem for the last weekend in August, you will be there for the Winefest and the great firework display on the Sunday night. We haven't been for a number of years now, but remember it from some years back when we used to stop at Camping Bergen regularly on the way home from our continental jaunts.
