Disappointed with Red Pennant
We have multi trip motoring cover until end of April. We want Multi trip Motoring and Personal cover from 1st April.
I did a quote Online and it came out at £308 for both. I then emailed to see if we could get a credit for the motoring policy and also asking for the policy to start on 1st of April.
I got a prompt reply which was good, but all they did was send me a quote for £308 which was the same as I got Online and with today's start date?
Don't they read the emails sent to them properly?

Why ask us? Surely phone and ask them.

A phone call to the ins. dept. to discuss your needs will always result in a conformation email if requested. It's good to talk.

No reply as yet to my email to them. I do not like phoning due to a speech impediment plus hearing issue which makes it difficult understanding one another in addition to the long wait before the phone is answered. Why have an email facility if you cannot use it or the other person does not respond? I asked a simple question and expect either a yes or not. Can't understand what is so difficult about that?

No expert on this, but if it's anything like an insurance policy, then any credit for the unused part of a policy reduces in relation to how long the policy is in force, ie a policy which has been running for only 3 montha will result in a larger refund than one which has run for 11 months.
We cancelled a breakdown policy a few years ago (not RP) as the new car we got had breakdown with it. It was only half way through the policy and we did get some money back, less a fee, so not a lot!

I think Red Pennant is a one off package and I am pretty sure there are no provisions for refunds beyond the cooling off period. This should be covered by the policy booklets? Personally I would only take out a Red Pennant policy a week or two before going abroad in order to get the maximum benefit period.

We have a ferry booked for May and a week ago I ordered my Red Pennant insurance. A few days later something came up which might mean we have to postpone or cancel but it wouldn't be covered by the insurance so I rang RP to cancel under the fourteen day cooling off period.
When I explained the circumstances the girl told me not to cancel at that stage as I could cancel at any time up to the day before we go, or, if we postpone, could postpone the insurance cover too.
She explained that in the meantime we might have to cancel for a reason covered by the insurance and if we cancelled the policy now would not be covered.
It all sounds a bit too good to be true but that is what she said.

I do think that not replying personally'to an email is becoming more the norm, not just with the Caravan Club. I suppose semi-automated and automated reply systems are the problem!
In comes a question or request for a quote - out goes a response - job done - computer says 'Yes'.
However, there's nothing like some human intervention to read, understand, and respond accordingly.

I must admit that everytime I have e-mailed the Club I have always got a response. If I didn't I would, after a suitable period, forwarded a copy of the original to the Club again. Almost without exception whenever I have e-mailed I have received a confirmation e-mail that the issue is being looked at, sometimes with an estimate of how long that might take. I suspect most companies prefer phone calls as things can be completed in one communication. I used to be able to e-mail Virgin Mobile as they had a contact e-mail address. The last time it tried that contact e-mail had been removed so no option but to phone.

Shortly after posting on this thread I got an answer in a second email. Not sure why they did not give the answer in the first email so can only assume that they read the first line and not the rest of the email or simply did not understand the question which only required a "yes" or "no". satisfied with the answer.
I have also noticed that if taking out a multi trip cover, you can only do it 2 months in advance so will need to wait until end of Feb to renew.

Good morning Surfer,
Thank you for getting in touch,
An annual policy is only refundable within 14 days of the purchase date, therefore no refund can be used towards a new annual quote.
The email sent was for a new annual quote, which would be the same as your online quote, hope this helps.
I do apologise that this was not explained in your email, I have passed this over to our email team to review.
Kind regards.
Kimberley.
