What are your tips for touring in icy conditions?

Keeping my distance and slowing down works wonders for avoiding hitting anything in front, but unfortunately, I have yet to sort out a practice to keep a safe distance from the idiot behind.

In my experience that is the problem on difficult slippery surfaces and driving in fog.
