There is nothing in the rules of the forum that requires people to come back and say thank you. I suspect posts like this are hardly likely to encourage them to do so. Whilst its nice to know that some advice has proved useful there could be all sorts of reasons why someone does not come back. I can think of a few instances where a seemingly innocent question is asked but the thread gets hijacked with opinions rather than help. Would you come back that thank anyone if that happened to you as a new poster?

You know as well as I do that it happens time and time again. There's one poster at the moment who has posted similar questions in two sections he has received answers and there's been no hi-jacking but zilch has been forthcoming from him. Out of interest, as a mod, why don't you act if you see hijacking in such circumstances?
Yes, exceptional events might prevent a return but not as often as help remains unacknowledged here.

A couple of weeks back, a thread about a month old was brought up and the poster asked me directly for advice.
I spent quite a while looking up things and checking things for him, he has never replied.
I actually find that pretty bad manners, as TW said.
I may well think twice in future before posting on similar threads.

I fully accept that it would be nice if people did come back and acknowledge replies, most of us would. What I am concerned about is the negative impact of this sort of post. Seen through the eyes of a newcomer to the forum this sort of comment is not very welcoming. I imagine they might have second thoughts about posting in the first place if they think their posts will be monitored for any replies they may or may not make. If I reply to a question I do so without any expectation of a thanks or acknowledgement. I think we should all proceed on that basis. Nine times out of ten we will get an acknowledgement so why get so bothered about the tenth?

That is all very well Brue but, unlike the regulars on here, many members just do not have the time or the internet speed to do the amount of browsing required by CT to follow what is being posted. Until the latest activity/new posts are better presented this will always be the case and will in my view discourage members from using CT.

I‘m sure there are others who like me read when they can because they are not connected to the internet all the time & also possibly like me do not chat because of that. I personally do not have difficulty using CT & when I do read I often find informative threads of interest.

This page, see here, at the start of Club Together shows all the latest posts, activities, discussions, reviews and stories. I find it easy to use and a good indicator of what is happening in real time on CT. I know that some like to follow posts by notification and it seems this hasn't been updated yet. I'm sure it will be and in the meantime this method of viewing things is working well on the devices I use.

It's not the negative impact of this sort of post or giving out the wrong message to newcomers, if read it is educating that person that common courtesy and good manners do exist, even on this forum. Hopefully then if asking advice they then have the manners to return and acknowledge the help given, and that it has been taken onboard or to challenge posts or to take it even further.
A lot of these posts that have a non returning OP are left in limbo, because of maybe differing opinions and more questions due to lack of information from the OP. If no-one returns the thread can be unanswerable and completely useless.

David, get real. It's not 'this sort of post' that's going to put people off using or returning to CT. It's far more likely to be the multitude of nasty, insulting, back biting, critical posts that exist throughout the forum. They sit there displaying CC in the worst possible light and it's an appalling showcase for all to see.
What are people to think when they see endless posts criticising CC and it's members, sometimes in very unpleasant terms? Don't worry about mild mannered posts suggesting it would be nice if newbies took the trouble to say thanks as that's the least of the problems. It's the other issues that drive people away or stop them joining CT.

I am sure you are completely right that the posts you mention are as likely to put people off. However I am firmly of the view that we should not be discussing and therefore seen as being critical of people who don't come back and acknowledge the replies they have received. I think on this forum we get a far higher percentage of people who are not regular contributors to forums who may not be familiar with etiquette of using forums.

Not 'as likely', in my view, David, but 'more likely'. It's an appalling situation and only this morning another thread has been closed due to the number of reports received. It tells it's own story.
Still, we're all entitled to our opinions.

Well David, I could use this site quite well with both laptop and Ipad before it was altered. Now I am restricted to my laptop so there's something wrong with it . As for its perfection its worse than the old site so why alter it?
