Routes into South Wales from Yoirkshire
Hi there - We are going to Woody Kiln Farm in March and i have looked at the RAC Route and it is taking me down the A483 & A5 through Wales. It is the shorter route but i am wondering if it may be too hilly and winding. The 2nd route takes me down the M1 and across country down to the M4 whiuch seem 'miles' away.
Any one got some advice please.

Aim for the M42 around Birmingham, the M5 south, and cross the Severn Bridge into Wales. Keep going.

Alternatively, M5, M50, A40, A449, M4. Those A roads are fine for towing and it saves the bridge toll.

We have done TW's suggested route a few times, and roads are good, even towing. Depending upon when you are travelling, check out football fixtures for Swansea City and Cardiff City. If either of these teams are at home, trust me, you don't want to be using either of Severn crossings. M4 gets very busy. It's a very long run as well, if time permits, you might want to consider an overnight stop. Lovely in Pembrokeshire though, enjoy!

Living in Newport South Wales, I would, agree with Tinners that this is the best route.

Thanks to everyone for your reply's - sound's like 'Tinwheeler's' route might be the best - we are travelling on the Sunday so things should be a bit quieter !!
Thanks again will let you know how we go on.
It's nice to know the system works.
Cheers

We live on the Carmarthenshire / Pembrokeshire border and have towed through most of the A and some B roads in Wales with no problems, some better than others but all ok for towing. We once towed to Peterborough without using any Motorways. It depends how confident you are at towing. A roads give you better flexibility to pull in and stop where you want rather than at the next service station.

I would definitely endorse this route, good dual-carriageway all the way with no nasty hills or narrow roads
