How frustrating for Alex Thompson after 70 odd days to miss out on a win by an hour or so. So near and yet so far.

His 'average' speed was just over 16.5 knots for 74 days. That's just mind-blowing. The cruise we did recently on the Queen Elizabeth was around that sort of speed for comparison.

Thanks for the comparison. I have no idea about sailing and the sea so it really helped my understanding.
All I can say is wow that's some going 😃. Congratulations to that man. I think I heard it said that sleep was snatched in 20 minute blocks. That along with boring food and only yourself to rely on in an alien environment. Should we congratulate or certify? 😉

B2, have you seen the video of him sailing, taken from a helicopter?
Try the link below....you may have to copy it and then post it in your search engine.

He broke the daily total for a sailing boat, 546 miles in 24 hours. If my boat had managed a quarter of that, it would have been a good day. The absolute 24 hour record is held by a multihull at 718 miles in 24 hours.
