Bailey Unicorn damp
Hi all,
I have just had my Bailey Unicorn serviced by a mobile fitter (approved workshop) having previously serviced my the main dealer, whilst doing the damp test he told me he could smell damp around the area of the front and side outside lockers so he did what HE always does when doing a damp test is to remove the plastic inserts and checks the locker floors OMG 75% and black with slim, so one can only asumme that he was the first fitter doing a service that has removed these for inspection, because we were only unable to use the van a couple of times this year and this year being a fairly dry one, does not fill me with confidence with regards to main dealers,so I recomend that bailey owners remove and check for themselves (only a few screws)

It is a known fault with the first Alutec vans with the two front side lockers and your main dealer should have carried out a mod to them which was autherised by Bailey,to seal them,I understand it was faulty front grab handles that leaked via the LEDs

I only used a main dealer once- never again! Thanks for the lead JVB66. I'll be checking mine. I was told by someone- I forget who- that you can't really carry out a damp test on the alu tech system as it's all plastic etc. I have heard about this front locker thing before so I'll be in there tomorrow!!

My Unicorn 1 has never leaked from the grab handles, but has through the floor bolt/joint area in all three front lockers.
Some have had front door seals leak, and some grab handle leaks.
If its the latter there are usually water stains down the bulkhead from the grab handle led wires, the fix is to fill the handle with sealant.
The dealer should actually seal all the floor perimeter, some have also leaked from all four corner floor joints.
Main reason I've left Bailey or should I say I will be leaving when my woodless Swift is delivered next May.
I should add that my mobile fitter does not damp test the floor as thoroughly as I do.

Take it in and get it done. If they agree it is damp yoiu could refuse to pay as it is their responsibility. They know full well their legal position but they do have the right to check the position for themselves and establish the extent of the problem. The alternative is to go away and issue a small claims summons for the money back plus your expenses which will hit them harder but you might want to do this after the repair rather than fallout with them before.

I am guessing that yours is a Unicorn 1 since you mention front lockers. On the Unicorn 3, the plastic locker inserts are already sealed with silicone alongside the locker doors, so are not removable. At its second service, last month, all the damp readings on our Barcelona were 12% or less, so it would appear that Bailey have addressed the problem.

Hi all
we have a unicorn 3 just 18 months old .The dealer picked up 35% damp in the near side front floor and recently took it in for repair (damp in my 1 year old caravan ? Can this be right ? They did not point this out at the 1st service we noticed it on the service report, There repair was to fix a drip channel along the front underside to stop the rain water running down the front panel onto the floor as they say the panel was fitted to short and does not over lap the floor ?.I have contacted Bailey regarding this bodge repair and they do not want to know.any one else had this experience?

My Unicorn 1 came with fixed price services but the dealer refused to stick to this contract so went back to mobile service after overcharge on first service.
On first outing found nose weight was 100 kg empty. Chassis max is 100 kg. Dealer did help reduce it to 90 kg but wanted me to pay £500. Did sort it after Trading Standards got involved.off road for months with a brand new caravan.
Next had recall because of danger of wheels falling off. At least they did this quickly.
Final straw was damp.at front rotted floor. Dealer failed to do reseal as requested by manufacturer hence major problem with 9 months off road.
manufacturer and dealer were generally disinterested in 6 years of caravan hell.
Than goodness for Section 75.
Trying a new Coachman now.

Have had damp problems with my Unicorn 2. Mobile service is really thorough. Bailey workshop informed me that ALL windows mist up even after 12 months!! Only by persistance did they fix the damp in the wheel arch.........later the bed locker..............then the bunk.............then the shower...........then the toilet area. Wont bore with the list of other design and quality issues. Happy new year!

I have just been informed by the main dealer to take the van in next week for the damp repairs to be rectified .Please let this be the end of any damp issues . They have informed me they need the van for 2 weeks so looking forward to some time away soon. 😎

And so I presented the van as instructed by the dealer on the 24th January for the damp repairs to be carried out and was told again they would need the van for two weeks and also told me they would keep me updated as to the progress. So after two weeks and no contact from the dealer I sent them an email to which they swiftly replied to stating the van had left the workshop and was awaiting a valet prior to collection and once again I was told they would contact me again with a collection date. Another week has gone bye now with no contact so not to sure how long a valet takes or am I being strung along ? Guess I was being a little optimistic in my previous post saying that we were looking forward to some time away soon!!!

Hi, My Bailey Unicorn 3 has just had its 2nd service and guess what?
Yes your right DAMP from the fridge wheel arch to the rear, across and back and up to the offside wheel arch.
Been waiting 12 weeks now for the parts and repair date?
Not a good selling point for Bailey.
Thinking I should not have bought.

And so this morning I get a call from the dealer to say all the work had been done and the van was ready for collection, so after a quick lunch we set off to pick the van up. On arriving at the dealers the first thing I noticed was the van was quite dirty (it was a very wet and windy day when we took the van for the repairs so the front end was very dirty) So what they told me last week that the van was awaiting a wash and valet prior to being released was not what it seems? Next I checked both side lockers to find the floor had been replaced and resealed however on lifting the plastic insert from the gas locker I was shocked to find the floor covered in thick wet black slime ( this was pointed out to me by my mobile engineer and was the reason the van was at the dealers) At this stage I managed to keep my calm and approached the service reception were I was told that it only the side lockers that a normally the problem so what about the £51.00 damp check I had to pay before they would acknowledge the problem that I pointed out to them in the first place, I now have to wait another 10 days for this work to be carried out NOT HAPPY
