Hi All,

I am a newbie to this discussions forum and also with the Escorted European tours which we have booked today.smile

We have booked the Algarve & Andalucía 25 night trip, ferry also booked for September 2nd.

We will be travelling in a 7.5m motorhome weighing 4.2T.

Although very excited we are also nervous too and would appreciate any info you can give us tips on, places to avoid , places to visit on way down , roads to avoid recommended sites and sites to avoid.

We will be travelling roughly 10 days down to Lagos before the tour begins.

Thank you

Claire

Strange how we never seem to see any reviews of the escorted tours!

I have friends who may be escorting this tour - perhaps I could get in touch with them to ask about overnight stop suggestions, etc.   I know it must seem daunting to be doing it on your own from the port to the first campsite on the tour, but many other people will be doing the same thing.

The escorted or 'hosted' tours are actually very popular, and though they may not, and do not, appeal to many people, others book tours regularly and choose different tours each year.  We don't get feedback on here very often, unfortunately, but from my experience as a Tour Host on a 'First Timers' holiday it was very much appreciated and enjoyed by the majority of those who had booked on it.

I must admit that whilst the first timers tour was hosted on a Caravan Club site in England, they had to make their way to the ferry, do the crossing, and had to make their way from the port to the first campsite, and that seemed to be the most difficult part for everyone.  I think once you've found and stayed overnight on your first site it will all seem much easier.

Good luck - and enjoy the tour.

Reading my notes >here< about our visits to Portugal might help. They are a bit dated but it might give you some idea of places to visit and stay. 10 days is ample time to get to Lagos and you will find the roads far less congested and much better than in the UK especially if you stick to the main roads. In September you should not need to book any night stops, just go with the flow and enjoy the trip, oh and welcome to CT and enjoy the trip.

Sorry my friends aren't escorting this tour - and unfortunately don't know who the hosts may be.  However, if you phone the Caravan Club they may put you in touch with other guests on the tour or the tour hosts (if you've agreed to 'share' your email address) and you can ask any questions you need answers to.   You can also ask the Caravan Club Overseas team as they are a very helpful group.

Good luck with the tour - and don't worry, friends who did a rally to Spain with 'the other club' had also never been overseas before and enjoyed their first trip so much that they booked again for this year.
