Hi all! Has anybody been to the CC site in Rudesheim? I have just booked as I love that part of Germany, I was wondering if anybody had any particular advice and if there are any access issues? Thanks in advance!

We have been a couple of times but the last time was some time ago. I have an old site review here. It is a busy site and can feel a bit crowded but has the advantage that it is within easy walking distance  of the town and for strolls along the river. Being in a flatter part of the Rhine Valley also means there is a bit less noise form road and railways. If its still the same you do have to be careful on how you approach the site because of low railway bridges and I refer to this in my review. BTW if you have not tried it before sample the Asbach which is made in the town if you like brandy.

have stayed there twice.no problem with access unless you take the wrong turning in town where there is a low railway bridge!First time pre booked withCC and were given a pitch overlooking the river (through a wire net fence) absolutely brilliant.second visit turned up on "spec" and given a pitch at the railway side of the site (still good) and noise not a problem.Reception closes at lunchtime but there is usually room to park before the entrance.Good tourist area.swim pool (not part of site) but good.Real tourist area .....enjoy!

We have also stayed there a couple of times. It is a very touristy area but enjoyed it both times. Transport links are very good and you don't need a car to get about. It is a 10 minute walk along the riverside into town where you can catch a train or one of the river boats to go further afield. A good day trip is a river boat up to Koblenz and get the train back. We were there last in 2006 and you can read my notes on our visits >here<.

Bad news about the Asbach!!!!!!!I was told by a local a couple of years ago that Asbach is now owned by the FRENCH!!!!.It is no longer produced in Rudesheim (we had a tour back in 1980,which was very interesting with free samples!!!) there is now a visitor centre on the opposite side of town....no free samples......just a shop and a video....still worth a visit whilst you are in the area.Do sample a Rudesheim coffee when in town.(the cafe near the chairlift is good)

Yes visited Rudesheim, albeit a few years ago now.I can remember it may have been a long drive along the river bank one side and if memory serves me correct we used the vehicle ferry on our return to the other side which is the main road out.

I quite liked the site within walking distance to the town, but it did get noticibly busy when cruise ships were docked.

Had a cruise down the Rhine which is quite interesting when morbid music came over the loudspeakers on the boat as it passes the Lorely Rock, google it and it tells you the story.

Handy Lidl or Aldi within walking distance.

Nice area to get out and about.

Quite a few years since we were there, as per previous post one access route involves passing under a low railway bridge which we did Ok but probably better avoided. Rudesheim is within easy walking distance if you are into leather shorts, thigh slapping and sausages you will enjoy it!

That was my main reason for wanting to go backsmile  I always buy a couple of bottles when I am in Germany or Austria as I don't seem to be able to find it in the UK.

Just to stay on topic you can also have a boat trip along the Rhine from the town.

Touristy but lovely town.  For around 30 Euro you can buy a Hessen ticket which gives up to 5 people one days unlimited rail travel to Weisbaden, Frankfurt,  Mainz etc.. so you don't have to rely on your van for sightseeing.
