Disappointed

Ok we've only been members for 5 years, so in the bigger scheme of things I know we are still what most of you class as newbies.

When I first became a member and Club Together was launched I became an enthusiastic contributor full of excitement and ready to help others and offer advise.

i recently raised a post asking your advise about small CL style sites in France as we are about to embark on our first trip overseas which was immediately shut down because I raised the same subject a year ago.

Yes I did raise the same subject a year ago mrs bored pensioner AKA (Longtimecaravanner) clues in the name!  and David Kylne (moderator) thank you for your initial response as we were planning a trip and yes I did get fourteen replies, thanks for facetiously reminding me, but since then I have battled with cancer, the trip never happened and only now that I'm in remission am I able to re consider taking our caravan over to France hence I raise the question again, so thank you caravan club for instantly shutting down my question in the forum because some pensioner clearly has nothing better to do in her life but double check if I'd raised the question already.

I've noticed far too much trolling on here and bad attitudes recently on sites towards wardens and other members and come to the conclusion that maybe the friendliness has gone from this club and is just full of facetious bored pensioners!

allot of water has gone under my bridge, i wanted fresh ideas that's all, but now I know where not to come.

anyone know of any other friendlier clubs to join?

rant over.

Listen my friend. I have no idea what you asked a year ago, but I read the question you posed on 4 January this year. I gave you the best answer I could, and others added comments of their own. You apparently didn't see those  replies or didn't read them, because four days later, on 8 January this year you asked the very same question - and so the answers from four days before were pointed out to you.

I am sorry you have been ill and wish you a safe recovery.  Adieu.

Towic, please don't disappointed.  I am almost sure that your post early this month was duplicated - there are other instances where a post appears as a 'twin' and replying in one thread in one section then appears in the same thread in another section.  I am sure that Deleted User User and I had some discussion about the strangeness of replies 'shifting' and the replies appearing in both threads.  Sometimes one thread is listed as having a lot more posts than the other even though clicking on them they appear to be identical.  I think then what happens is the moderator deletes what appears to be the shorter thread with fewer replies- and then any replies which were actually added to that thread disappear from the 'second thread'.

I certainly replied to your thread this month (not to one dated last year) so I can only think this is what happened to it.

This may not appear to make sense, but I'm sure others reading this will know exactly what I mean.

Here is one of your threads, from this month which wasn't closed, and which elicted a number of what seem useful replies.  I hope you can now read some of them and realise that everyone was actually trying to help.

Thank you Valda, that may of happened, I just don't understand on here if no one has anything positive to say then why say anything, it's like some folk on here love tripping other up and correcting people.

i may have asked once before, it was awhile ago, I've not been on here for a long while, just disappointed with the attitude, so what if I've asked once before, didn't,t know it was so policed on here.

    But thank you anyway x

Read the link in my previous post (in blue - and now below in bold with 'Click for Link') which takes you to the post where we all replied.

Towic - I was right about your post being 'strange' and have now found it (but the hyperlinks above don't work - they take you to the 'wrong' post - I presume because there is some 'forum software' glitch.  I have copied and pasted all the replies as screen dumps so if you email me at valdaathome@gmail.com you can read the replies and see that quite a lot of people were actually more than willing to offer information.

There are some strange things going on with this forum - and I can only apologise because it's obviously left you with bad feelings about the membership - rather than the software!

I'll try the link again - just in case:

Advise for Virgin Overseas Tourers (Hopefully clicking it will take you to the correct thread this time).

And Ina, sometimes clicking your link (and my original one) takes you to Towic's second post with only four replies - very very odd!

Val, I tried to edit after deleting my post; we posted at the same time; thought it better to delete mine, all very odd!

Towic, you are absolutely right in that over the winter months I am a bored pensioner, and as such try to put the knowledge I have gained of caravanning both here and abroad at the disposal of anyone who asks for information. In that guise I replied to the request for information on 4th January this year with the most helpful answer I could give.

However I am not so bored that five days later I want to repeat that information to the same questioner, and as it was only five days since I wrote the reply I remembered it well and didn't need to double check. If there is a gremlin in the CC forum that has bought forward a question you asked a year ago and currently dated it then I am sorry for my comment on the second post.

It is very odd, Ina, (and LongTimeCaravanner) because the link seems to be working perfectly now - but definitely wasn't earlier.  I'm sure my first link was the correct one because I followed yours, then looked through Towic's profile to make sure it could be seen there, but then posting it as another hyperlink came up with a 'Bad page error' initially, and then took me to the closed post with only four pages!  Trying again seemed to do the same thing, but now the link seems to be working OK.

The posts from Towic are definitely dated 4th January 2017, and 9th January 2017 and don't appear to be resurrected from a year ago - though who knows with this software.

Fortunately Towic has now found the replies from his earlier post so success, eventually, even if a few feathers were ruffled along the way!

    Towic

In your original post here you received a lot of good advice. Unfortunately starting the same thread again does not really help and you are unlikely to get any new answers. Posting what you have in this thread is hardly going to encourage people to help in the future. We try and keep duplication to a minimum and as I was the only one to add a comment in direct answer to your question, at that stage I had not realised that I was answering the same question as I had some days before. I am sorry you feel the way you do as we all do really try to offer the benefit of our varied experience when asked.

towic I completely understand your comments.

I too have met a group of Trolls on a current thread which does stain the whole forum.

It's a great shame that your particular post turned out as it did.

We have just received our Touring Fance Book from the CC today, have already made a list of all the things we need to make us save and legal towing over there and now on the hunt for a good coastal site.

We will stick to the good old internet and find our own way, I think it will actually be more fun this way, thank you ValDa for your help and to those that replied to the original post that seemed to have the glitch on it and I never got any answers from.

Good luck to all on Club Together.

I am glad to see that towic's problem is solved and he/she is happy again.

HOWEVER, he does have a point about people on the CC forums (Not so much this one) being a bit too trigger happy with correcting other members' postings. Like him, I used to be an enthusiastic contributor but spat the dummy out when I posted about Tesco Club points not being eligible for caravans in the Tunnel. I posted because some other people might have also been ignorant of the situation and make the same mistake I did. Within hours some full of his own p and i, busy body pointed out to me that I should have read the fine print. He was then surprised when he discovered in no uncertain manner that he had annoyed me intensely.

I would repeat towic's request that members stop and think for a minute before they criticise others. None of us is perfect.

As there are now two posts on this thread about trolls I have to say that I am very hurt that the diatribe against me personally is at the top of it. The facts are that on 4th January Towic asked a question about sites in France, which in my usual helpful manner, I and several others answered.

On the 8th January he asked the same question with slightly different wording to which I replied 'Didn't you ask this question on 4th January and get 14 replies?' Quite a mild reminder I thought.

In response I got this nasty post about being bored, factious, and nothing better to do in my life than checking other peoples' posts. Now people are agreeing with him about trolling I query whose post was the most unpleasant.

This is not a criticism, but: Tesco vouchers ARE valid for caravans with Eurotunnel.  Friends of ours with a caravan have booked Eurotunnel with Tesco vouchers for quite a few years now, most recently last May/June.

I have read a lot of your posts, and they couldn't be further from what could be described as trolling posts.  They are always helpful.  I actully felt somewhat implicated too, as I posted below your post with the relevant link to the thread of 4 january..

It did appear after that there could have been a glitch with the website, which could have explained the problem (although I don't profess to understand the ins and outs of that) but I did think it was unnecessary to call someone a facetious, bored pensioner.

With respect I don't think you have understood what has gone before. The OP started a thread which received a lot of useful information. For some reason he posted a second thread on exactly the same subject and a few people just asked why when they had already provided the information requested in the original thread. Is that not reasonable? Personally I feel the OP was actually quite rude towards some posters and an apology would not be amiss.

As to Eurotunnel I used Tesco Club Card Points for years with my car and caravan so I am not sure what you mean. We all sometimes post things which are not completely correct perhaps because of a minor misunderstanding but if we do we should be magnanimous is accepting that we might have got it wrong. Contributing to forums is not like discussing something over a pint face to face so there will always be room for things to be said that could have been said in a better way, and we all learn for that, hopefully.

Towic, I guess you must have been through a difficult time and aren't 100% yet.  I do hope things continue to improve.

Be aware that the CC 'updated' the website back in December and since then thing have been ... chaotic.  Your original post seems to have become a causalty of that.

Don't blame the others on here.  Yes there are some moaners, but there are many who give their time free of charge to try and help their fellow caravanners.  If anyone's to blame it's the powers that be at the CC that are ultimately responsible for the state this forum - and indeed the whole website - is in.
