    OH and I were going off to meet up with friends for a walk and lunch. Decided to take the X-Trail rather than the Yaris to give it a run - not been used since 29th December when we returned from December break. A few miles down the road just doing 60 in the second lane of the dual carriageway way when there was a bang and the driver's side front dipped down coupled with a slightly rough ride. 

    Front 3 month old tyre ripped right through the centre for most of its circumference. 

    The front coil spring had broken and ripped the tyre. No walk and pub lunch and instead home on a low loader. 

    At least it didn't happen on the way back from hols with the caravan 58 miles earlier I suppose!

    Hadn't thought about hospital as I understand it you provide your own everything for baby and you these days. I thought charity shop might raise funds with it. Will have to see if there are 'needy' charities locally. Just want to potter at knitting for a while.

    Yep. Two front coil springs, Tyre and might consider replacing front shocks as the car will be 12 years old come August.

    Crikey, never known a coil spring break. Leaf spring, yes but not a coil spring.

    You must have done an awful lot of miles.......or maybe a lot of off-roading?

    I blame Scottish roads.  smile

    Not many miles though - about 66K. I have had one break before very many years ago but was not as noticeable

    Now I think about it I had the front wheel rebalanced a month back and there was a very, very slight buckle in the wheel, barely noticeable and not enough to require it to be straightened though

    ET you could be right about the 'Scottish roads' I've had both my back coil springs go on my little picanto and the car has only done 26,000 mls frown

    undecided Well ,i asked for a day off today ,got to do the shopping sometime !! So i said yes.!! If i don't buy it ,then i don't cook it.then i don't eat it !!Hmmm,Anyway,,brighter here in East Kent today,some sunshine .wink.

    Lovely bright sunny day here today bit chillier today than the last few days have been, forecast for us is snow by the end of the week. Call me a synic but I guessed that would be the case, as we are due to get our van back from the dealer at the end of the week frown with a bit of luck it won't be too bad on the East coast for the OH to go up to Aberdeen and collect it. Want to go away in it for a couple of weeks but will have to wait and see what its like.

    Just renewed our LPG tank contract, I got a good deal I think by playing one off against the other, managed to get our current supplier to play ball so staying with them for another 2 years.

    Just seen the news and weather coming from Eastern Europe, Brrrrr hope it doesn't come this way.

    Our van is due for an MOT early next week, just before we hope to go away, fingers crossed all round then for the weather! I suppose it's bound to happen at this time of the year. wink

    You can take vehicles in before the MOT date (up to a month i think?),and the new MOT will be dated from the expiry date of the current one

    Have been to our dealer to book c/van in for service and warranty work,and while talking to service dept staff they say that in the last couple of years vans from the makers have been arriving with more and more faults,and has got to the stage that they now check them when arr on low loaders, and are now rejecting them and sending them back on same vehiclesurprised

    Heard the same from my dealer's service manager 12 months ago. I was there when a driver had brought one from Hull and had to reload it and take it back.

    We forgot about booking the MOT over Christmas! Which is why there is mild panic in the air, OH has got spare parts from ebay for something that needs replacing to speed the process up and I think we might need new tyres this time round!

    We always follow the "When in Rome..." thingy so visited the Roman Baths today as it was raining. Enjoyed a cuppa in the Pump Room beforehand. Found the Baths very interesting if somewhat overpriced but we still found the effort worthwhile.

    Had a lovely late lunch at a small restaurant we found on the walk in to Bath.

    Lazed for an hour at the flat, then went for an early evening stroll, up the lanes to get a better view of the city as the sun had finally decided to appear. Dropped in for a pint at a cosy pub.

    Shall now have a shower and then rustle up a light tea and maybe a glass of wine. 

    Very impressed with Bath. Suits us.

    Just back from the vets with Harry, poor thing. His foot problem was more serious than we thought! The vet has made an incsion into the swelling and found 3 small grey objects, she's not sure what they are but they just look like tick bodies but with no heads - very nasty! He's very subdued tonight and has to keep a lampshade collar on for the next 3 days which is going to be fun!Painkillers, antiinflammatory and antibiotics and then back for another check on Thursday. Happy days!

    Sorry I didnt mean the maternity ward Bakers but the sick babies who are in the children's ward. They always want clothes to dress the poorly babies.

    Glad to hear that Harry has had his foot seen to, although what was found doesn't sound very nice. Hope he behaves with his' lampshade' and makes a full recovery.

    Arrived home from our son's in N. Ireland late this afternoon. It all seems rather quiet here without the grandchildren chatting and telling us their news. frown Hopefully they will be coming over here during February half term laughing

    Thanks for your good wishes for Harry, millie, TG and Ian. He's come round a bit now, enough to clamber up on the sofa next to me! And I've given him a few minutes respite from the lampshade so that he can curl up comfortably. He doesn't seem too irritated by the wound at the moment and isn't trying to lick it which is what the vet was concerned about. So fingers crossed!

    If Harry doesn't like his lampshade collar ,you can get inflatable collars,which can be less stressful for the dog ,but do the same job
