Hi David , thank you for that information it was very handy and gives us a good starting point to investigate further. We are planning to take the ferry from Plymouth to Santander in Spain . And then travel through northern Portugal and as far south as time will permit before we need to head back. We are to.d that northern Portugal has fantastic scenery and whilst we would love to see as much as we can we don't want to feel rushed and drive all day every day but rather stop and enjoy, then maybe next time do more and go further eventually doing the whole length of prugal and around to southern Spain .

Don't go too late in the year as most sites close at the end of September.

Orbitur sites are of a reasonable standard, or use the A si book.

Caminha, just across the border from Spain. Vianna do Costello and A AViero  further south are all excellent towns. Portugal is one of the cheaper countries in europe with lots of markets for food. English is spoken on camp sites but not much in the towns of the north.

the motorway along the northern coast of Spain is beautiful and free. I wouldn't try to get much further south as the Algarve is the least attractive part of Portugal.

    Enjoy!

Had a couple of holidays in Portugal and it is a great place to visit.  Very inexpensive with lots to see.  Deleted User User has covered most of the info needed. I would just add that if you are getting the ferry to Santander which arrives in the evening suggest you stay at Cabo Major site in Santander which stays open for the ferry. Join ACSI and have a great trip.
