Camping le Capeyrou
Hi, we're planning our 1st MH trip to France in July.
We're aim to start in Calais & work our way down to St Emilion and across to Bergerac via Le Mans. Then back via La Rochelle and the "Green Venice". We want to use CC sites so we know what we will get and can book all our trips with the Club prior to leaving the UK.
About 20 kms to the east of Bergerac there is a Campsite called "Camping le Capeyrou" in Beynac. It not on the list of CC sites but looks nice and was wondering has anyone been to this site.

Le Capeyrou is a good choice - have a look at the 50 reviews on UKCampsite.co.uk and the 132 on Trip Advisor. You will need to book quickly for a July visit.
The Club can certainly book other sites for you, but No, you won't "know what you will get" . They are individually owned and managed and very varied.

The sites the Caravan Club use are a very limited selection of 'normal' commercial sites in France and the rest of Europe. They aren't run by the Caravan Club - and they don't have standard 'facilities', layout, or management style. They will have been inspected by the Caravan Club. Sites in Europe vary tremendously in facilities/cleanliness/position/cost and so you'll find very different sites - not a 'standard' Caravan Club type model. There are sites which the Caravan Club use, which I wouldn't choose, and then there are fantastic sites which the Caravan Club don't offer.
Some posts on this forum have also complained about poor quality pitches they were offered when booking through the Caravan Club, on one particular site in the Languedoc. See here for details: Discussion about La Nautique/Massereau. I don't know whether the person concerned took up their complaints with the club, nor what the club's response was. If you do have any problems then I would make sure you raise it as an issue on your return.
Doing it independently, especially in low season, can have lots of advantages over tying yourselves to a limited number of sites but it is probably prudent to book in advance for July. Have a look at independent reviews of sites, posted by others, on the websites Eurotraveller refers to, look at the campsite's own website and then the costs of doing it independently and then weigh up your options.
Don't forget, though, that in France, motorhomers also have access to a huge numbers of 'Aires de Service Camping Car' which are overnight stops for motorhomes in villages, towns and cities, usually in a good position for seeing the town, and some of these can be free,, some you pay for, and you may want to have a look at some websites for such Aires.

I'd echo eurotraveller and Val above. When you book "CC sites" they are sites bookable via the club, they are nothing like their sites in the UK as they are not owned, nor run by the CC. My advice would also be to research French sites and reviews, it's good to do, IMHO half the enjoyment of a trip is in the planning!
Another site near Beynac you may want to check out is La Cabane at Vezac, just Google it, can't do a link on this new fangled phone yet!

Would agree with others re Le Capeyrou, nice site on the river near the village. Years ago we booked sites through the club (and also through Eurocamp Independent), mainly because we went in high season and because of lower prices when booking sites and crossing together. We soon found great variations in the sites and that many were not what we would have chosen in the area. We are now retired and travel out of the main season and like many, don't usually book - however if I feel it's necessary I research and book through the internet. Good luck with your trip.

Nothing wrong with using the "Club" recommended sites abroad (we've used them and may use the Venice one this year) and you may get them at a discount from the internet published prices but I agree with meecee above - you've got a route sorted and so will know distances between the towns. Get on the internet and see what you can find re sites in those towns. Most you can book via internet if you wish. Enjoy.

We stayed there a couple of years ago for 3 nights.
Pleasant site. Good facilities.
Recommend you do the canoe trip down the river.
A vehicle takes you up stream then you paddle at leisure down stream.
