I hope you like it more than we do, David!  We bought our Dyson (with motorised cleaning head, in spring in France (when the euro was still trading at an excellent exchange rate), and at first thought it was great, but it's just not man enough for a normal house with a pet.  The small dust canister just fills up too quickly, the fluff compacts, and then has to be eased out from a narrow space with a bamboo skewer!  Then the filter blocks regularly, so we've now bought a spare filter so that it's never out of action!  On problem sorted, but now the mechanism which opens the dust canister bottom doesn't work everytime!   You can guarantee that as soon as you're no longer over the waste bin, it falls open and the dust and some of the fluff falls on to the newly cleaned floor.

We're booking a visit from the Dyson engineer!  The one good thing is that though it was bought in France, we were allowed to register it with the Dyson guarantee in England, so long as we purchased an English plug in charger.  As we paid considerably less than 200 euros in France, this still came out cheaper than buying one in England.  Then we'll relegate the Dyson to the caravan, and treat ourselves to a larger, newer and more user-friendly Dyson (or perhaps a Miele which my son says is much better) for home!

And as far as 'what did you do today' I collected a load of logs from where my OH is taking down a tree, brought them back and stacked them by the back gate ready for splitting, then I got the old hoover out and hoovered the sitting room, dining room and kitchen!  Then cleaned the tiled part of the kitchen floor, meticulously, going over the grout with a scrubbing  brush!  Now I'm going back to pick OH up and fill up with a second load of logs!

We bought a Miele last year ValDa, it's been excellent (Compact C2 cat/dog version.) Lovely and quiet and easy to use....if only someone else would do the housework it would be even better...wink

Spent the day mooching round the house, trying to get used to not having my beautiful little Westie, Millie, around. She lost her fight with cancer yesterday. We knew this would be the eventual outcome but it still doesn't fill the hole in our lives which she has left.

The other dogs are coping much better than we are-bless them. At least she had a lovely final trip in the van in October. That won't be the same without her either!

On a lighter note, taken down the Christmas trees and all put away. I quite like the lights in the garden and may keep these out. Much to the distaste of my other half!

Turpin strikes twice..wink The system seems a bit wobbly today, I keep having to restart posts.

Ggregu, sorry to hear about your dog Millie, better to keep busy. As you can see I am supposed to be busy but failing in the task.

With the help of DD, who came for lunch, I have booked the "MegaBus", which will take me to within walking distance of the Norwegian embassy in London.

I have splashed out on a bunk bed for the overnight journey, cost £20, and an ordinary seat for the return journey, £8.50.

Then we had some tesco clubcard vouchers that we exchanged for double value, so only £8.50 to pay, so a reasonable result.

Travelling end of January, just hope the weather is not bad!

The Miele machines are excellent.  We bought a cylinder type when we first moved here almost 29 years back, it is still going strong.

Then about 7 years back we bought a newer one, the "Cat & Dog" model with the powered rotating brush head, which is great for the stair carpet, and other carpets,  and can reach under furniture easily.

We keep the newer one downstairs where we have wooden flooring in the hall, and the old one stays upstairs now so OH does not have to carry them up and down  the stairs as they are quite heavy.

Another Miele fan here. We too have the Cat & Dog one with the turbo brush. Can just get to the top of the 13 stairs with the hose.

Often the bags are on offer, easier to just bin the bag once full tbh.

We had 2 Dysons, absolute heaps of junk. But then thats what you get through plagiarism tongue-out

The best vacuum ever had was a cheap Panasonic up to the edge thing 25 years ago, still in use by family member we gave it too when persuaded to get the 1st Dyson.

We got a Dyson V6 cordless in the Black Friday sale at Currys.

We were a bit unsure about the 20 minute battery life between charges, but unless you are the sort that likes to spend all morning vac'ing the entire house (we aren't) then it's fine.

We have it on the kitchen wall and just do a room now and then.

Agree that the collection container fills up quickly, but we put that down to the great suction and the amount of muck it drags out (any stronger and it could pull the carpet pile out, I reckon!)

We are well pleased with it.

A day at CAB today and two rather complicated cases to tax the mind. The benefits system is clearly designed not to be understood by the general public. But I love the challenge smile

For a good, and relatively quiet, upright cleaner, I can recommend a Sebo.

Excellent suction and good edge cleaning. Also very sturdy.

    Depends what your flooring is.

For carpets OH tells me she prefers an upright.

But for hard floors the cylinder is better.

I would second that. We have had ours well over ten years. Previously had a Miele which I think my son still has. Never been a great fan of Dyson cleaners but it has been a few years since I had anything to do with selling them.

Thanks for your feedback on the Dyson V6.  We haven't got the whole house carpeted so perhaps it will be OK for us.  I agree that the small collector compartment fills up very quickly.  No doubt time will tell.

Will shortly be using the G-Tech carpet sweeper to clear up the pepper seeds and onion skins off the kitchen floor from preparing tonights curry. Also used the grain masala I received as a Xmas pressie in the curry, yum yum tongue-out
