I started first time in 1986 with an Eccles Topaz having sold the yacht I owned at the time. Children were 4 & 6 then. Second innings began in 2011 having sold my most recent yacht. ( Notice the trend here) initially with an Avondale Dart and shortly after an Abbey Vogue.

Back to the subject. It seems strange to me that this thread did not have any old posts attached  as I can't imagine it has just layen dormant with just the original post. All a bit strange.

We started caravanning in 1982. Previous to that we had a small cruiser which we used on rivers and canals but when the boys came along thought that it would be a lot safer for all concerned that we did something on dry land!!! A friend had a frame tent and wanted us to go away with them so we saw a caravan advertised local. It was a 10 foot 1976 Ace Airstream. Very basis no toilet or fridge but it did have an awning and as they say the rest is history. In the first year we towed 577 behind a 1300 Vauxhall Viva which was the worst towcar I have ever had. Did manage to get to 50 mph on the flat!!!

Me and the other half started about 3 and half years ago.

i was looking for something cheap in which to go diving ( obviously staying in caravan, not diving in the caravan).

The other half got involved and it got expensive. We bought a second hand Fleetwood Colchester and took her all round the UK, a week in Cornwall, up too Scotland diving (twice) down to the Pyrenees and across to Brittany and weekends away at the seaside. This in the first year!

We realised that this was a great way to spend time with our granddaughter who loves caravanning so in May 2016 we took possession of a brand new Swift Corniche (Challenger 580, dealer special) which we took touring around Portugal, Spain and France for three weeks.

This year we are planning on Switzerland and Italy for our main summer holiday with granddaughter in tow.

Although we are of to Cuba next month I look forward to my caravan holiday more!

We started out sharing a motorhome with the in-laws 10 and a bit years ago (I got a 10 year CC member sticker last year).  Motorhoming didn't really suit our needs so, when father in law died in 2011, we changed the motorhome for a 2 berth caravan.

wink,Started about 71 with a demountable body on a Bedford CF,lots of touring in England & Scotland.Later on with a Jennings Roadranger also on a Bedford, the 2.3 was a bit juicy though, used it in France a lot'Then in around 2002,purchased an Autocruise Sunningdale with which we regularly travelled to & from the Olive mill in the South of France ,that i was refurbing, towing a Smart on an 'A' frame too. That engine was a beautiful Peugeot 2.8 ,used to get 28mpg ,or 23mpg when towing .Now on my forth M/home (and probably the last ) A beautiful "Concord Charima"with a rear tailgate garage in where another 'Smart ' sits ,which gives me the 'out & about ' extra touring All the M/homes have given a varied & pleasant lifestyle ,and insites into other nations, languages & peoples .Love it !! cool.

First time out was in April 1982 and we went to the Lake District - Low Manesty Club site towing a Rambler with an Austin Maxi. The 'in-laws' got us into it and it was their 'hand me down' Maxi that we used and a hired caravan. Not looked back but suspect this will be our last caravan and onto the SAGA holiday!!!

Eurovette camper  !!  Lots  of  changes  in  1979  !!  Even  had  to

We got our first van April 2016 and absolutely love it. Luckily we have a site not too far from home, so we can pitch up on a Thursday and we're close enough for hubby to go to work, while I get to work from the Van.

Roll on when the site reopens... I'm having withdrawals!!

Not an easy question, do you mean when did I start 'caravaning' or when was I started in 'caravaning'?

The simple answer is all of my life, you see as children my brother and I were subjected to our hobby from birth!

Now I think we have experienced all forms of caravaning over these years and in a way still have very fond memories of the true and original form, tents! The luxury of our motorhome today however pulls me back from the romantic to the sensible!

Bought our first camper back in 1986. One of our friends had a Type 2 VW Westfalia Camper and I always loved it and wanted one as a kid.

My Grandmother made me a deal at the age of 14 that if I was successful in my venture to be accepted to study medicine she would buy me one.

I kept my part of the deal and so did she. I was the proud owner of a blue 1972 VW Camper. My partner and I who met and became an item on my first day at secondary school travelled around Europe and the UK in it until she breathed her last on the M55 just outside Blackpool.

We have continued the hobby all of our adult lives and would not be without a "van" our current one is number 14

We have visited so many lovely places and made life long friends along the way.

It seems like yesterday thinking back and cannot believe that as we both head towards 50 and retirement that our working lives are almost over and we will have all the time we want to travel
