I totally agree.  I don't mind change, but when its worse than what it was, well, something should be done, but it won't.  The reason nothing will change for a year or two is because it cost thousands of pounds to change this in the first place, so they can't change it and admit it was a totally waste of money

    Oneputt

There have been several Stories posted since the change of forum which show good size photos. I would agree that it is disappointing that the option to add more photos into a story has been removed, although some have found work rounds. You can always post more photos in subsequent posts. In which way do you feel the Story section is worse than before? One major change for the better is that non stories can be moved into the discussion area, that has been a excellent change.

Much of the site has improved since the launch day. It's worth checking through some areas again as they have become more functional. I never follow threads as I don't want extra notifications via e mail, I find it easy to navigate to threads I'm interested in without any problems. The only thing I miss is a vertical discussion structure on my phone which was much easier to navigate, I have this on my laptop and I wonder why it doesn't work the same on my phone?

What you say David is your perception mine may be entirely different so equally valid

The photo posting process is worse now than before particularly IMO the quality.

I didn't say the story section was better or worse I said I won't be posting any more I said quote  "I've lost interest"!

If you want a forum that works you only have to look at caravanchat.org

I don't have any significant problems navigating the new site on my iPad. The double post factor does crop up occasionally, but is more a function of the slow speed of the site, meaning you press the button again, rather than how long you hold your finger on. If you wait a few seconds to check if it has posted, double posts can normally be prevented. Having to press the buttons several times to get into things does need addessing but is not a major problem. I would certainly count the ability to add photos from an iPad, a discernible improvement.

I think the primary reason for fewer posts, if indeed there are, is the difficulty of using it on a phone. The sideways scrolling certainly puts me off. Also from my experience of an old phone and what has been written on CT, it does not seem to function on older Android devices.

Not if you have an iPad Oneputt. It was not possible to post photos at all before. So even given the lower resolution, which some on the photo posting thread seem to be getting around, it is a significant improvement in my opinion.

It seems to take so many more clicks to get where you are trying to go ...  I wanted to get to the last post on this thread and its taken me an age being sent back to page 1 etc etc.  I never noticed the stars have gone - and I think they were useful to gauge how experienced - or not a poster was.

Big problem is no matter what your device, you have to match your finger/pen/mouse operation in speed to the slow response of the site. It's the only way to avoid repetitiveness of posts etc.

You think what you have done is not working so you repeat your operation while the site thinks about it, then you see repeated posts. Not so bad on a fast connection but even mine is telling me 'waiting for caravanclub.co.uk' when refreshing the homepage, and I have fast fibre to the house.

    Experienced in what though?

Not necessarily in caravanning or MHing, only in posting on the forum!

Hopefully the OP has seen that there are good number of replies here.  IMHO CT will continue to evolve along with contributions from old/regular & new posters.

Never was a regular poster but this is my last one as without delving too deep it's hard to see anything of interest, can we have a rollback please

Sadly for me my interest diminished some time ago. The forum was my first port of call each day and my wife always knew when I was on when I laughed out loud. Basically the 'fun' has gone.I used to love the exploits of "Ivor Booking' and other very humorous postings. There were discussions that provided a broad spectrum of views that were stimulating that have now become sanitised. I cant really comment on the new format as I rarely look in now and have only just seen the change. Why did my avitar photo go?

The merit of the star system was that it gave recognition to posters who put more work into posting and following discussions. If you participated more you would get more points and go up the star rating. I can't see what's unfair about that.

I'm glad to see the back of the stars as well but I'm not posting much or looking in as much as I used to because the forum isn't much fun to use on my phone (which is how I've always accessed it)

Getting an overview of topics is harder and latest activity is still clogged up with 'likes'

When the promised improved optimisation of the mobile site takes place I may be back more often. Until then the pain isn't worth the gain.

It's strange that most of the other forums have some sort of star system ,but the members on those never moan about it , it must be unique to CT undecided

I'm on other non caravan related forums where star chasing is mentioned Husky.

I think CT is different because star chasing has far more of an impact on other users. If you go in through latest activity then you notice it more. I haven't come across anywhere else where 'likes' have such an impact on usability.

Of course many other forums allow you to ignore particular posters as well. That really helps reduce complaints about star chasing

It may be because of neither RT.  There is a possibility that many posters are voting with their feet and going elsewhere due to their disappointment with the "new" forum..

I find the new format such a pain! I agree it's a backward step. Compared to what we have now, the former one was so much more user friendly! At least you had all your options in front of you instead of have to scroll them. I for one am fast losing interest. I haven't posted nearly as much as I just can't be asked!

Had we not allowed stars for posting in the Social Room or for likes from the outset it is quite likely that we would still have the system in place today.

    Who shall we blame?    laughing

Thankfully, and perhaps because the infant school star system is discontinued there seem to be far fewer of those posts with work related drivel.

    Oliver

Not sure there is need for blame. The original idea was to encourage people to post on the forum. Unfortunately it soon became clear that there was a bit of competition for who would be first with a particular coloured star. When the professionals moved in it became a bit ridiculoussmile

I'm another one who is glad the star system has gone.

It is more likely the changes to the site and slowness of it that has put some off.

As others have said the CL search is the most disappointing.
