I reckon there are far more Scots go south than English go north, judging from some of the questions on the forum.

We are always hoping for better weather!

It would be good if HO gave an explanation as to why they do this, but can't see them doing that.

Continuing my research, sites in Scotland seem to fall into several different groupings.....

Those having peak season following English holidays (14/7-2/9)......

Balbirnie, Culloden, Garlieston, Maragowan, New England Bay,

    Those following Scottish holidays (30/6-13/8).........

    Ayr, Forfar, Stonehaven, Strathclyde.

Those taking in both holiday periods (30/6-2/9)...........

    Bunree, Edinburgh, Melrose, Banchory, Yellowcraig

Those having a long peak season.....

    Brora and Dunnet Bay (26/5-24/9)

    Morvich (28/4-30/9)

and Kinlochewe.....which has some very strange pricing!

I have never really understood it and I am more confused than ever now. I have never looked at this before but look just at the price for the sites when I book which at the end of the day is all that matters to me.

WW, I agree its the bottom line that counts (or not) to us customers, but it would be interesting to know what makes one site maintain peak for a longer period than another, and why some sites are 'worth' 10p more than others for a specific date....

producing this complex matrix of prices across the network obviously keeps someone at CC very busy and the rest of us confused....

Thanks for all the replies and especially those who have researched it all in more depth than I have had the time to do. I have spoken to the club and have been promised a reply early in the New Year, but will not hold my breath if previous correspondence with them is anything to go by.

On a similar note.  We thought of going away in early April and were surprised to find Haycraft Swanage had pitches, until we saw the cost - £146 for five nights.

For some reason the first two weeks of April are "peak"  but then on Easter Monday the 17th it drops down to "mid season"  which is good for families who have to go away during school holidays, but no help to those of us who try to avoid them.

Have the fee setters not realised Easter moves as last year Good Friday was the 25th of March.

I would imagine it is a result of the variation in Easter holidays across the country. Whilst in Hampshire, for instance, they are from the 8th April to 23rd. In Nottinghamshire they are from 1st April to the 17th April. To be fair to the CC at least they did not make it peak from the 1st to 23rd of April. If you wish to avoid school holidays it would seem all but the last week of April is out.☹️️

    1st - 17th in Somerset also.
