As we already have a thread on Sandringham
    here
, I'll close this one to avoid duplicating discussion.

There was a thread on this but it has not survived the move to the new website, which is annoying... perhaps we can resurrect this one and try and recap on the information that was given out. I remember someone asking if day visitors can pay on the gate and I replied Yes, prices for day tickets - £5 a head I think - for all information on the National click on What's On on the banner across the top of this page, the National in the dropdown menu. Look for the Handy Download, What you need to know.

The National was fully booked by the 25th November 2016. For anybody wanting to try and go the Club is now running a waiting list.

Hi Dave, yes the National is currently full but the purpose of the original thread was to give information to those going - not just to try and persuade people to go. First timers (or those who haven't been for a few years) often have questions about what to expect, what to take etc... So I think a current up-to-date thread is useful for any questions that might crop up and for those of us attending to chat to each other.

    See you there? laughing

A poster kindly posted on the old forum, that the mysterious Cannine disease which for the last couple of years has been killing dogs in the Sandringham area should be a problem, as it only happens at a certain time of the year ( Not at the time of the National Rally )  So owners do not need to be concerned.

    Good news !!!!

    Cheers...............K

I am puzzled - although I have been a CC member since May 2007 I have never attended a National Rally. I didn't realise that 2017 will be Sandringham until I looked at the redesigned website today. I looked at the pages about the National - I gather that the site is a field (?) next to Sandringham House but the only information is the post code, which is not that of the CC main site at Sandringham (Glucksburg Woods), and looking at the booking page for the main site with nice hardstandings and toilets / showers as at today is only fully booked for Sunday 28 May but not before nor after, within the National dates... and although the website says the National is fully booked, and helpfully includes details of so-called 'nearby' main sites, does not mention Sandringham main site! Strange...  Out of curiosity, I wanted to know how much it costs to pitch on an unlevel piece of grass with low ampage electricity but no toilets, showers, etc, but now the National is fully booked, although you can join a waiting list for cancellations, it does not tell you the cost before you email to join the list. What is going on?

I have paid £95 for the duration of the rally, not including evening entertainment, but a couple of issues with your question, how do you know it's an uneven piece of grass, and what is wrong with low amperage electrics,I would say half of those attending would not select electric usage anyway. This is the first year of all electric pitches.Ralliers are used to using their own facilities so do not need site toilets and showers.

This National was fully booked in under one month of opening date and all information was under the events section of the Club website. The price was clearly indicated on the booking form.

Unfortunatley for you the original thread on this National has been "lost" on this new forum so you cannot read previous posts.

As far as I know if you stay at the Club Site Sandringham then you could visit as a day guest.I am not sure what the entrance fee is for day guests.

That is what is going on.

And Balmoral in 2018 I hear.

No idea about 2018 yet eurotraveller, but Balmoral would be the Scottish National anyway. 2017 Scottish National is in Dumfries, 28 April to 2nd May, and the Irish National is in Trim, Co Meath 13th - 18th April. Not sure where the Welsh is atm, someone will know.

Inali, it puzzles me that you have only just heard about Sandringham from the new website, I take it that means this is your first visit to the Club website and presumably you are one of the members who bins their magazine the minute it arrives rather than read it too ?

Oh and yes, as I have already said earlier on this thread, if you wish to stay on the Club Site and visit the National you can buy a Day ticket on the gate, details are on my earlier post.

You surprise me Firedragon. I thought this Club embraced the whole of the United Kingdom, yet  you seem to be talking of a separate English national rally rather than a British one.

I quote from the National Brochure which can be downloaded from the CC website:

    Pitching:
Pitches are all on grass, and may be sloping in parts. Please bring a supply of wooden blocks or wedges to level your outfit.

It would cost me 112.00 for 5 nights at Sandringham CC site on a hardstanding, with toilets, wash cubicles and showers, and washing up room and laundry, 16 amp electrics, television booster socket, access to CC wifi (I've paid for the year), etc (9.80 for one adult, 12.60 per pitch, per night) (sorry for the lack of pound signs - they come out as # - don't know whether my computer is playing up or if it is this forum)

No, I do not bin my Club magazine the minute it arrives- I keep it for the month before the next issue comes, but confess I do not read it cover to cover. This is by no means my first visit to the Club website- I was a regular contributor to Club Together when it was first established, but haven't done so for ages due to health challenges etc. I thought as the website had been relaunched, I might as well go on it and have a good look around, so as to speak.

Come off it Eurotraveller, wink, I do know you have been here long enough to have been through that discussion before ! surprised

For newcomers though... The National encompasses ALL regions, England, Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland, however that doesn't stop the Divisions hosting their own if they so wish (and they do laughing)

    Alison

PS Sorry Inali, of course I do remember you from the previous website, my bad ! Hope you are restored to reasonable health these days and still caravanning..

    To Inali

Thats fine by me,if you need a "full fat" club site with everything it's fine by me.I have myself booked at least 4 club sites in the forth coming year, so I am not complaining, but you cannot compare a Caravan Club Club site with a National Rally venue.Having every single luxury you have pointed out is not what rallying is about.

This is what makes our hobby so different is each person has their own preferences and requirements.

Hmmm, a bit late then, first time I think the National has been booked up so quickly before the New Year. A pity really, I wanted to go but couldn't organised or arrange the time off to go quick enough!!

Is this because caravanning is becoming more popular or there's less space at Sandringham? frown

Hi Richard, difficult one to answer (and I suspect there will be quite a few differing opinions wink

Caravanning has certainly changed over the time we have been doing it, back in the late 80s when we started you always had to book up the National quickly to get in, and yes, there were more pitches back then but then we (like many) had a 10ft Sprite and you could pack a lot of those in a small space. Nowadays our unit is a lot bigger and regulation spacing is also bigger - so less units per area allowed.

The National also has gone through quite a change over the years, it has evolved (out of necessity) from a long weekend 'rally' of all different Centre members competing against each other in various sports and activities to the much bigger event that it is today, attended by all kinds of members.

I think you'll have to make your own mind up as to whether caravanning has become more popular or just the National laughing

2018 Scottish National Rally , will be hosted by the East Scotland Centre and will take place in Kelso at the showground with all activities and functions on site . Was very popular the last time the rally was held there , 2011 and 2004

What is the chance of the area for the National being increased? Without an increase I sense their will many disappointed Club members.

I believe we have got the maximum space we can have it is the rules re: spacing that then dictates the number of vans we can get in that space. Memo to self...book early next year regardless of where it is wink

I see there is now a list on the National page of Club Sites and rallies (relatively) near so if some of those on the waiting list make alternative arrangements to go as day visitors then the waiting list will possibly go down.

Unfortunately that would not work for me FD and if they are charging what they normally charge for day visitors, it isn't worth it. I have now booked with the rest of the family to go elsewhere, it was cheaper as well.

£5 per adult for a day ticket peedee, under 18s are free. So only expensive if you are staying on a Club Site I should think, stay on a rally it could even be considerably cheaper.

Apparently (according to the grapevine) cancellations are coming in from those who have discovered they cannot attend after all, so...

...keep those fingers crossed, if you are on the waiting list! wink

Got the new magazine today, did everyone else see page 11 about the National and some of what's on this year...pig racing, Xtreme Stunt team (that's cyclists, motor and pedal), dog show and a pipe band. Then there is the Have a Go area, with Zorbing (!!!) Segways, and an assault course as well as the usual climbing wall this year. Also the Sports Bar will not only have the Sky Sports but also games consoles for those so inclined - not me personally, but whatever floats your boat, I'm just hoping to get out and see some of the arena goings on and maybe (fingers crossed) maybe even get to see a show.

I have also heard on the grapevine that maybe there may even be a few more spaces becoming available this month - anyone here got a place from the waiting list yet ?

Our magazine only arrived this weekend, (like the new look - but that's another thread wink) Knowing how it works,  I think HM having a cold after Xmas and staying at Sandringham a bit longer than usual means that the national team wouldn't get in there until later than normal so although it had been worked out on paper, perhaps there may be a few more pitches to be found when they actually get there and start marking out the areas - you never know - perhaps Doris might have brought a few strategic trees down there too !? laughing

We are going to the National at Sandringham, booked mid November but was told we could not pitch within our region or centre as it was full. Is there anybody in the same situation as us, regular ralliers with their centre but been put elsewhere as there is no room at the inn!!
