The song and behaviour of the UK's favourite bird is being affected by light and noise pollution, according to research from Southampton University.

Thanks for that. Now if CC would reduce site lighting away from toilet blocks I would be a happy bunny as would the robin it appears

I don't think there is anything controversial about the news that the behaviour and song patterns of robins is affected by light pollution but for those interested in the report, there is a link to the BBC News item here

There must be something cotroversial as somebody has Deleted User OP and my reply. I would love to know why. Any chance of the courtesy of a reason??

The whole thread seems very odd!  I added a post yesterday, to this thread, with a link back to the BBC website, (and a mention that there was nothing controversial about Robins and light pollution) and now that has completely disappeared (except when I go back to it through My Profile) when I can see it just as I typed it!

And a few minutes before adding this bit, I also typed and saved in response to another post by Nelliethe hooker (and saw on screen) this:

It's even more strange, Nelliethehooker, because earlier I added a post which created a link to the BBC website about Robins and light pollution. If I go back via 'My profile' I get the original post, but once I try add to the thread only see only this new post! What on earth is going on!

If I reply to this thread I wonder if it appears in the other, too?  I note there is a short delay between ABM's contribution to both threads - I wonder if this will happen here too.

Yes it does, it appears in both threads!  But one suggests 5 replies and the other 9 and yet there are now actually 11????

    Curiouser & curiouser!!

Perhaps some-one at HO can come up with an explanation, but I won't be holding my breath.

Let's call this one Thread 1 and see what happens.  I can only get to the end of this one by going in through the 'My Posts' link on 'My Profile' otherwise, if I try through the main forum I get a 'Blank Page'.

Back to one thread again, and yesterday heard 'our' thrush singing again.  This was in a little courtyard right in the middle of town, not particularly well-lit, and it was quite dark at the time.

Think we'll just have to put down to one of the foibles of the system. and leave it at that. We certainly not going to hear anything from HO by the looks of it!

    Back on topic,

We have lived in our house in a town for over 40 years so have fairly high levels of light and sound pollution an yet there doesn't appear to be any difference in bird/wildlife visits to our garden
