New website
The new discussion website is absolute rubbish. It's so user unfriendly, god knows how to navigate it. I certainly will not try looking at it again. If the idea was to prevent members easy access to express their views you have in my opinion certainly succeeded. Bring back the old easy accessible site!!!

I fail to see the problems that EJ and blue have about the site. I certainly am not computer literate by any means yet I have managed perfectly well.

In the short time I have used it it seems to be pretty good so far. It may be helpful to list what members think are the good and poor bits. Some of the poor bits may be able to be addressed by the Forum Manager that way?
My views are:
Good:
Adding photos easily in threads.
spell checker that works.
Poor:
Not enough threads visible on the page.
No list of your recent threads available on the right of the screen so you can follow your recent discussions easily rather than remembering which thread and which section they were in.
Loss of stickies & an inability to find them even when you know their previous URL

I think it is far to early to comment too any degree. However, my reactions have been generally favourable. Yes a few things could be better, and may indeed be tweaked in the future. The photo uploading, whilst still a little cumbersome, is a 1000 times better than on the old site. However, now the star system is defunct, there is no quick way to gauge how long someone has been posting. This makes blues comments difficult to evaluate.

Perhaps it would be more helpful if you listed your concerns as Roy suggests, at least then admin can look at the information you provide and hopefully tweak. This is quite a big change and I doubt with the best will in the world everything will be absolutely right on the first day.

Just found out that the stories section has not migrated well as it appears none of the photos I have uploaded to my stories are visible on the new forum. There are photos there but they are not mine! The text is there though so that at least is something. This is a real sad loss if the Club cannot fix it. Regards, Roy
PS, The Meeks who have written 285 stories have non of them listed under them as authors. Since they were very much supported by the Club in their ventures I find this very strange.

Well said David. This is a great chance to get things much better and I feel we should all help to get the best we possibly can. Lets hope the Manager is going to follow this thread and that other members add the good points and those that perhaps need looking at. Regards, Roy

I am finding the new forum a bit slow and intermittently hanging for a couple of seconds every so often. Looks like a bit of work still needs to be done tuning the system.
All other websites are working perfectly.

Looks like Chas & Caths stories are there but the header photos are not. It is good that they post photos in with the text as they seem to be there on the ones I have viewed.
Good:
The first comment in a thread remains at the top of subsequent pages. Once you get used to that it is good to see what started the topic but many, like me initially, will think it is the previous comment at first.

Poor:
Stories section. Before if you wanted to find a particular story from an author if you clicked on that author it brought up a list of all their stories by page number. So you could select a page and thus a time of posting to find the one you want. Now it is much harder to navigate. It takes you to the authors profile and you have to select the latest stories and keep working backwards a few at a time. A very long process if they have posted more than a few stories.

The site seems about as stable as a milk jelly on a hot day. Best thing that the CC could do is shut down until half sorted.
As for reporting what is wrong with the site I presumed that the CC would have done some 'in-house' beta testing??

Seems ok, once I figured that you need to hold iPad in landscape to see it all. Don't like that, because it needs much bigger hand movements to type.
Not tried to post pictures yet (haven't got any on the iPad) but if it's easier, then that must be a good thing.
Spellchecker is good, but had that before anyway when using the iPad and it seems to work just as before - not automatic, I have to click on a 'suspect' word to highlight the mistake.
Overall, like most web site updates, it's probably just different ratgervthan better or worse. Still, it keeps the IT people in a job, I suppose.....

Just had a look at some of the threads on the CL section. The original post has the date and time as normal but then every post that has been copied across is dated and timed almost immediately after the original. It's as if everything has been condensed.
Not had a chance to look at other sections but a bit weird.

Please have more threads per page!

I have just posted a new story and the loading of the five photos allowed worked seamlessly. However when I tried to insert an additional picture in the body of the text it would not allow that. It seems the maximum of five rule applies to stories as well which is a little disappointing as a longer story looks better if it has a few more pictures to break up the text.
I did read in the magazine that the Meeks have ended their collaboration with the Club so whether that is anything to do with their stories or whether its just a case of the stories migration being work in progress I don't know.

I am finding the site quite slow. I do hope we don't start getting ad pop-ups next.

We were promised a brand new website but it seems all we have is pretty much the same but with different colours which make it harder to read, most of the bad parts kept and some of the more useful functions not working. It also seems to be very slow and we have less posts per page so need to page back and forth more.

Oh I really don't like the new discussion pages, can't seem to find anything. I can't see it all at a glance as I could before. It needed tweaking but personally I now don't find it user friendly at all. I will be opting out for a while at least.

Can one of the staff address the problem of us not being able to find the discussion we are following easily. I have clicked the 'follow' button but have had no email notifications. I have to keep going into my profile and finding the threads there - such a time consuming pain. Could another way be found so that we can follow our discussions easily please.

I read on one thread that Rochelle is putting together a tutorial which may help you. I have also seen somewhere on a thread that a poster got an app for his pad which has worked. Not sure if it was an ipad. Sorry can't remember the thread titles. Must have been something to do with uploading photos

I'm sorry but I find the new site a backward step. Not intuitive at all. The side swiping is slow and nowhere near as good as before.
It took me ten minutes to establish how to reply to a message.
Whoever did the design for the interface should not be paid!

Ian most of my photos on the pad are from my 12 megapixel camera so were much too large.
I downloaded a free resize app. This is very quick, select the photo in your photos, select resize parameters and resave in photos. This leaves your original intact.
It is a bit of trial and error as you don't know the file size on the pad. For mine I started at 800 x 600 pixels. That worked for one photo but it refused to upload two. Reducing to 400 x 300 allowed five to be uploaded at acceptable quality.
Hope this helps. Still a bit cumbersome, but much easier than before and can be done on an iPad.
