Caravan Club give away business to rivals
Hi. You have all no doubt read in the club magazine and other media how great the caravan insurance provided by the club is. Well my caravan insurance is due for renewal at the end of February. I have it at present with another well known camping club. We have been told recently that it is best if we shop around and get other estimates even if we are happy with our present insurer. Well I thought I would give the caravan club a shot. I tried to apply on line, I answered all the questions they asked even my inside leg measurements. I clicked the submit button and it came back that they couldn’t give me a quote on line and that I should ring them. The next day I did just that, I spoke to a very nice lady who had to fill in the details all over again. When she submitted the information she told me that there was a problem. Before I continue my caravan is stored on a working farm not far from my home. It is a 2013 Elddis Affinity 540 single axle. It has an onboard alarm, a tremble alarm on the jacks, a top of the range wheel clamp and a top of the range hitch lock. The entrance to the farm is controlled by a locked gate the farm house is next to the gate. It is in an alarmed area with a few other vans. There is CCTV operating plus a guard dog.
Back to the insurance company. One of the questions was “Is the gate kept permantly locked”? I answered most of the time, as it is a working farm the gate is going to be left unlocked for a short time on some occasions but most of the time it is locked if not someone is on the premises. Sorry was the reply we cannot insure you because you cannot guarantee the gate is locked. The only way we will insure you is if you fit an axle lock (whatever that is) are you prepared to fit an axle lock? My reply was no. Well I have renewed my insurance with my present provider who thinks I have more than enough security and who give great rates. Thank you Camping and Caravan Club. Oops

We insure with the CC, having talked with other insurers including the alternative mentioned in the story we have found the CC offers the highest level of insurance. You have to comply and if others insurers don't ask these questions you're more likely to lose on a claim from their small print.

If you do go with the camping and caravan club be aware that they use two different underwriters for insurance. Ask them to give you a quote from both as the difference for me this year was £85. They both give exactly the same cover but they have to quote
you on the higher one due to their business agreement.Could save you some money. I have also found the C&CC much easier to deal with than the Caravan Club.

I do not understand .if the "gate"being locked was a prblem how does any one insure a van if it on the front of a house?
As I said above, we would not need to ask that question. Having spoken to the member, he is going to run a quote through again and come back to me if he has any difficulties.

Hi. I am the person who started this story. I have made the most terrible mistake for which i am truly sorry. The insurance company who i was in contact with was Caravan Guard not the Caravan Club. This came about when i entered Caravan Club into my search
engine. At the top of the page it said CARAVAN CLUB INSURANCE - MEMBER OF CARAVAN CLUB. I did not think anymore of it as i thought i was in contact with the caravan club. When i spoke with an advisor nothing was mentioned that they were not the Caravan Club
so i assumed they were. I am sincerly sorry for any offence or harm caused to the Caravan Club and apoligise most sincerly. I am trying to contact the Caravan club at the moment to say how sorry i am. So anyone thinking of taking out insurance with the club
please ignore my comments. higear.0 -
At least you apologised. NOTE current news on "copycat" sites. Double, double check that you are on the APPROVED SITE. Let this be a lesson to everyone. Incidentally, we have always used CC Insurance, when "undercut", the policy is also "undercut".
