August we did a tour of Scotland in our trusty motorhome using mostly club sites. First stop Craigie Gardens at Ayr then across country to Edinburgh. Onwards & upwards to St Andrews - then to Forfar . Across to Montrose and a visit to the House of Dun, then up the east coast to Stonehaven - we hadn't been there before so we explored pastures new - climbed up to Dunnottar Castle. Next, up the east coast via Aberdeen, along the Moray Firth through all the old fishing villages to Fort George then the club site at Culloden. Inverness for fuel before the next leg up the coast to Brora, with a beach to rival any in the world.

On up through Wick to John o' Groats and still the sun was shining ! A visit to the Castle of Mey before pitching camp at Dunnet Bay - another stunning beach. West along the north coast past Kyle of Tongue, Loch Eriboll & Durness then south down west coast via Laxford Bridge to C.L at Elphin where we did a trek to Loch Urigill and got our first rain as we walked back to the site. South again via Ullapool and Loch Broom & further west by Gruinard Bay & Loch Ewe to Poolewe and a visit to Inverewe Gardens, then site at Kinlochewe.

South again through Glen Carron, past Eilean Donan Castle, along Loch Duich to Morvich near Shiel Bridge. This must be one of the loveliest sites ever - in a valley completely surrounded by mountains - absolutely beautiful ! The weather was lovely too so we set off on a hill walk to the Falls of Glomach but when we got there we also got RAIN and boy did it rain ! The path we had followed to get there was now a flowing burn so for the first time ever, our hiking boots were saturated. Fortunately the site had a drying room so we put our soaked clothing & boots in there overnight and next day it was back to sunshine so we can't complain.

South again through Glen Shiel, Loch Cluanie, Loch Lochy, Fort William and our last site, Bunree, on the shore of Loch Linnhe. We had a lazy day in the sun and a day in Fort William.

Leaving Onich for the final leg of our trip we came south through Glencoe & Crianlarich and that's when the road got busy - down past Loch Lomond, where the road has never been great but had numerous landslides during the snow & floods so is narrower than ever - not much room when a bus looms up coming the other way, and foreign tourists who veer towrds the middle of the road.

The rest of the trip had been relatively relaxed driving but this was not enjoyable. It was a relief to

get south of Glasgow and the home stretch from Ayr & Carsphairn past Loch Ken to Castle Douglas. Apart from the last leg of the journey it had been all very relaxing and we thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

We have a beautiful country and great club sites - the added bonus was good weather !
