Electric Hook-up

Thirty years ago caravans were quite basic and did not carry a battery. Instead we plugged in to the car for lights although many then had gas lights. Water was pumped manually and there was no need for a mains electric supply. However designs soon started to change and sites started to have an electric hook-up (EHU) but the caravan industry was slower off the mark and kits were available to wire caravans for mains electricity.

 

Today we live in a different world. Caravans and motorhomes are luxurious and contain many items that require mains electricity. But that should not make us dependant on having an EHU. After all the majority of rallies do not have an EHU but the Centre members have no problems.

 

A decent leisure battery should last for at least a week in the summer provided one is sensible. For example, by all means watch the TV, but, don’t leave it on when you are not viewing. Don’t leave lights on unnecessarily and if there is a gadget that needs mains electricity - buy an inverter.

 

So if you are thinking of attending a Centre rally or an event organised by a Centre or a CL that is basic, have no fears and if you have any doubts just ask. After all, the others on site are used to going without mains electricity.

 

The Club website lists all rallies and events and these are often on areas not served by CL’s and Club sites so get searching.

    Hi Mike, Im a new comer to this blogging thing so sorry if I make mistakes. Anyway about none electric sites, I use them a lot I bought myself a 60w sola pannel and have stayed on sit for as long as 6 weeks with no problem,as long (as you say) being carefull
    how you use the equipment, and as long as you start with a fully charged battery. I use a 110ah battery.
