Oh dear we're out of gas here in France!

Our excuses first: This is our first trip to the continent in our new Adria which we only picked up a month ago, and we are newbies. Clearly we haven't  monitored our Calor supply and, sadly, it's gone. Merde !

If we are on electric hookups  of course we are ok, but cannot brew up a cuppa. 

Any ideas would be most welcome. There is room for another bottle. If we buy a gas bottle here what else do we need and where might we get this gear?

    Camping gas is  much cheaper on the Continent than in the UK, and readily available in most countries. You could buy a bottle and a regulator rather than a French bottle and adapter?

    two things....

    1) a cheap low watage electric kettle will help with the cuppa....local supermarket should do....

    regarding the spare bottle slot....

    2) your Adria will almost certainly have come with hoses with either POL (calor) type fittings or the continental LH threaded 21.8 female fitting.....known as a 'butane' hose...

    if the latter, you will be able to screw this straight into a french Butagas (or similar) bottle....the propane and butane bottles have the same fitting....propane would be better as you might be bringing some home...

    if the former, you can unscrew the POL hose and buy a butane hose locally and then connect as above.....

    There are other solutions to the 'cuppa' problem, apart from BoleroBoy's excellent suggestion:

    1.  Buy a stand alone gas stove, with pack of four cartridges - about 13 euros from some camping/sports hypermarkets.

    2.  Go to a large general hypermarket, find the electrical goods and buy an electric ring (single from 10 euros upwards at sale time/basic models, double from about 25 euros) and an adaptor to fit your British plug (available in the larger shops), and use that instead.  If you can't find an adaptor beg or borrow one from neighbours.

    3.  Ask fellow caravanners if anyone has any spare gas - we used to carry two cylinders at one time, until we realised we hadn't even begun to touch the first one.  

    We're almost nil gas users these days, we have a mini-oven, an electric hob, and an electric kettle, so our gas is used solely on journeys when we stop for a cuppa somewhere.

    Buy a French Bottle and change your hose .. You then have one for next time.

    Definitely go and buy a low wattage kettle and mains adaptor so you can use the 3 pin plugs and put it down to experience. You'll laugh about it at some point in the future. Along with ValDa, we too use hardly any gas abroad - just the oven/hob and 6kg of
    propane can go a long way.
