Working offshore we had to do it every 3 years, as you get older getting into the raft seems to get more difficult.  Still all in the past nowLaughing

Jumping from a height. I thought the maxim was that you stepped up into the liferaft. You must have 'peaked' too early Triky.

Write your comments here...Certainly NOT. Wearing the apprpriate flotation vest ,First you 'step off' making sure that your landing area is clear of other bodies, NOT jumping,  the high platform/ships deck etc, holding one arm across the chest to support the other arm/hand ,which is so positioned that you can pinch the nose to stop the force of hitting the water jerking the head back and filling the nostrills/mouth/throat .After emerging from the depths,a large breath is taken whilst making your way towards the life raft. When there ,(if you are the first) turn the raft into an upright/floating position make sure the boarding ladder is deployed .Bale out ,then assist other people to scramble on board .Check all people for injury or need of sea sickness .Go through the manifest of equipment and first aid , to see all is there to sustain you .Erect a 'rain catcher' for future water needs .Check radio contacts etc.Keep everybody calm and concious/warm.

Oh !!  Then there is a whole string of dissembarking proceedures to deal with .SO ,,a survival technique NOT to be taken friviously C.Y .!!

I felt fairly comfortable with an emergency abandonment protocol on my boat. When I've been on a cruise, notwithstanding the safety drill at the beginning, I think if push comes to shove it would be pretty chaotic. A disciplined environment such as North
Sea rigs etc must be much more confidence inducing. I worry about the ever-increasing size of these cruise ships from a safety aspect.
