Yes I too have just read the news on the internet. Such a shock and so sad. He will be missed so much by so many people. My thoughts are with his wife and family. It has been a dreadful January with too many losses through cancer.

Yes, truly sad news. I used to love listening to him in the radio and his banter with Ken Bruce and boggy Marsh. January is really taking its toll this year.

Sadly another entertainer who has left the studio for the last time. You were up there with the best Sir Tel, sadly missed by one of your TOGs
RIP Sir Terry Wogan

Sir Terry will be sadly missed, he was a true giant in broadcasting to me and I have grown up listening to his shows. We have just finished listening to Sunday morning radio on BBC radio 2 this morning and the tributes and music played were fabulous. There
will be much laughter in heaven today. RIP Terry.......0 -
A snippet from a programme during the financial crash was that between Gordon Brown, Fred the Shred, Eddie George and Sir Terry, only he was the one with a banking qualification.
Got into broadcasting as a temp job during the Irish bank strike back in the sixties.

Must admit he wasn't my cup of tea but, and it is a big but, I admired the man for the amount of work he put into Children in Need. This is the type of cause that deserves to be recognised when handing out honours and he thoroughly deserved his.

..I think he would have enjoyed the humour in that.

We grew up with him. Desperately sad that he is no longer with us. Please keep him going: have a look at you tube and his Janet and John recordings. Even now, by watching and listening we are donating to the Children in Need cause which he dedicated so much
of his own time and effort. They are the true essence of this fun loving gentle man. He was so like my dad. Lovely lovely OG.0 -
What I used to love about him was his ability to say what you would think about anything. When travelling in the car anywhere, I would always listen to him and would be laughing out loud at some of his jokes. Loved him and will be missed

Your opinion is noted dakota but fortunately it is in the minority. There are hundreds of 'celebraties' drawing more who possess zero talent (TOWIE, the Chelsea thing, the Jungle farce and many others). If Tel did take a cheque for the job, and I wonder
where your info came from, he earned it. He was the most talented broadcaster during my life time and made thousands of people feel good.0 -

Brave words indeed considering he is not in a position to reply were you never taught not to speak ill of the dead?

Here is one source of info

It seems he was paid just over £9000 for doing the Children in Need show each year, but said he would gladly do it for free.
The fee came from the BBC and not from the C in N charity.
The BBC described it as a token amount.......which actually says a lot about the BBC's grip on reality.
Other presenters only claimed 'expenses'.......again, these would probably amount to what most would call a very good day's pay.
Why on earth do the BBC behave in such an oafish, insensitive way? Yes, they do have a 'money no object, plenty more where that came from' mentality.......but do they have no common sense at all?

I should add.......please don't left the idiotic, insensitive behaviour of the BBC detract from the superb work that Terry did........his achievements as the driving force behind his charity far outweigh any attempt to grab a headline by a third rate rag.......

I think there is increasing disquiet among the general population at the BBC's profligacy though.
