The Offside Rule and Offside Trap in Football(Soccer) It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.
    A player is in an
offside position if: he is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent.

    Eh?

So why don't they just not go nearer to their opponent's goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent, then?

Great win by N.Ireland and the Germany/Poland game has finished in a draw, so NI
only need a draw against Germany to go through!

It was quite a good game with a stand out goal from Gareth Bale. I thought the Welsh team played magnificently, and to be honest, gave England the rattle they needed. Just hoping, with fingers and toes crossed that they both get through, along with Ireland
and Northern Ireland. Some really gutsy performances from some of the underdog teams so far! Be interesting to see just how far England can progress!Happy

Write your comments here...Just watched the highlights and thought it was poor goal keeping rather than a stand out goal, at that level no one should score from 36 yards out. Joe Hart admitted he made a mistake after the game.

Watched MOTD and thought England performance was good, it's always difficult to play against 11 defenders so well done England.  Thought Northern Ireland were brilliant.  Home nations doing quite well at the moment, pity Scotland aren't there to enjoy the
    party!

Spot on it was a poor mistake by Hart he should not be beaten from that range unless its in the exteme top corner of the goal. The shot from Bale was in fact a good two yards inside the post so Hart did not have too move very far.It was a good win by England
but if we have any thoughts of getting too the final we will have too play a dam site better than that.

Half  Time  in  Czech  Rep   0  Versus  1   Croatia

One  sided,  but  only  One  Goal  so  far,  most  interesting  point  so  far  was  just  before  Half  Time  a  corner  was  given,  players  lined  up,  but  before  the  kick  was  taken  the  ref  blew  for  half  time  !!  Players  all  seemed  a
little  bemused,  but  we  were  not  --  Referee  is  somebody  called   Mark  Clattenberg  !!  Ah  well  Time  to  go  &  cook  my  Salad !!

Trouble among the "fans" at the Croatian/Czech game even before the game ended. Czech managed somehow to come back from being hammered and 2 down to draw the game 2-2. This is not the first time that the Croatian fans have caused trouble lately.

I  suppose  you  both  are  right  trellis  !!

The  Encroaching  Forward  with  less  than  two  defending  side  players between himself  &  goal  line,  and  in  front  of  the  ball  IS  in  an  Offside  Position  but  is  only  "Offside"  if  he  last  player  to  touch  the  ball  is  another  Attacking
    player  AND  the  Encroacher  either  plays  the  ball  or  is  interferring  with  play  { in  the  Referees  not  so  humble  opinion  }

Complicated  on  paper,  &  always  arguable  when  there  are  six  cameras  and  four  "Experts"  in  the  studio  arguing  the  toss  !!

I thought the player had to be ""active" to be offside which is why you'll often see the linesman keep his flag down until the player touches the ball when sometimes he's come back into an onside position. Complicated stuff. I picked Germany with Morrisons
and I get an extra 100 more points when they win a match. Rich beyond the dreams of averice.

Not  too  sure  about  that  Papgeno  Undecided  There's  lots  of  Crewe  players  given  'OFFSIDE'  but  you  could  hardly  call
    them  Active  Sad

I remember seeing my team playing them a number of years ago. The result was 1-1 and Crewe's goal was well offside!

Well done to the three teams of the United Kingdom who had the skill, talent and ability (and some luck) to win through the group stages and into the last 16 of the Euro 2016 competition.

Lets hope that Scotland can qualify along with England, Wales and Northern Ireland when the next major football tournament comes around.

Well, we now who England will play in the next round....Iceland! Glad it was not Portugal who we've never beaten in a championship. Still don't know for sure who Wales & NI will play yet, tonight's matches will decide, but they could well be playing eachother.

Yes, a good job that the English team got Iceland.

As I understand it, Portugal only have one bloke in their team, but he's basically like Superman or something.

Apparantly he scores all their goals and has the strength of 11 men, bullets bounce off him and he can fly like a plane......so it's a good job that the English team didn't have to play against him. As I understand it, they only have the strength of about
3 men, plus someone with a head like a potatoe?

Will it all be over after the next game?

What a great win for Ireland, beating Italy, to qualify for the knockout stages. They now have to play France. Wales will play N.Ireland, and England v Iceland.
