I think all this criticism is totally unfair. The team were honour bound to follow the instructions of the 53% of the English electorate who said we should get out !!

The thing I don't get is, as far as I'm aware (and you'll appreciate that I don't know a great deal about the football game) that Hodgson fellow wasn't even playing on the day!

How come he got the blame then? Surely it's the one's that were in the team, that didn't kick the ball into the opposite goal net enough times, who should get the blame?

How come they don't sack the captain, if he was in charge?

Have you not been watching the news, Ian. It's always the "manager" who stands down after a losing campaign - even if there's not the remotest chance of finding a competent replacement quickly! Wink

Can't believe just how bad England have played. Every single player has underperformed compared with their League form. Something seriously wrong with the set up. Hodgson had to go, and maybe a complete clear out of the so called coaching staff will follow.

Yes but everyone knows, Welsh lamb is the best. How nice to be the correct side of Offa's Dyke and watch the over inflated bubble that is the English football team burst so spectacularly.

    Here's a thought.

Whenever I've seen these footballists out training, they seem to do a lot of stretching, a lot of that side-ways skipping, a lot of talking and standing around drinking pop.

Obviously they can't be very fit (do you need to be for this game? Undecided). But maybe if they did some running and practise kicking
the ball into the goal net, that might help?

    Just a suggestion.......

I do not follow "football" but if they have to "employ" so many non uk players in the teams ,how can there be any good uk players to represent their countries??any manager of any team is on a loser

Well Iceland don't even have a league that has full time paid players, and they seem to have done alright up to now!! Their team includes only 1 English Premier League player and their captain will be playing in our 3rd division equivalent.

As for Hodgson resigning.....he was at the end of his contract anyway. It was up for renewal after this tournament, so how could he resign? He hasn't the guts to front up and answer any of the journalists questions. Compare that to the attitude of Stuart
Lancaster, England's ex RU couch, who never ducked an interview after they were humiliated in the RU World Cup.

there lies the fundamental difference in the ethos of the respective games!

Another thing.... the England football team didn't have a leader on the field who could tell the others where to go when under pressure. Rooney ran around a lot and showed a bit of spirit but is not a leader of men. Again look at the English RU side, they
have leaders all through the team, as well as the captain, who are not afraid to express their opinion on the field leading & encouraging others.

What is needed is a return to the belief that it is a real privilege and an honour to play for 'your' country!

Apparantly the team were going to go on a visit to the WW1 war graves while in France......but it was decided that it would be too 'draining' for them.

Just how unfit are these footballists?

I assume they don't get paid any more than basic expenses for playing such a simple, undemanding game.....do they? Undecided

It is quite demanding IanH. They have to be able to count up to ten because they have different formations and they need to know where to kick the footyball if the manager changes from 442 to 451

The one I've seen was just a statement. He was forced up speak because of his position as English manager, but kept asking why he was there and would not take any questiions from the sport jounalists.

Not yet HD, just stick a Dragon picture in the middle of it. Even Bale has said that they are the only "home nation" left and asks for all our support.

On Radio Wales yesterday, Gareth Bale was asked by one of the European press how he had the motivation to keep turning out top performances.

His answer ....'the dragon on my chest'

It used to be you found your best formation and players and kept them playing together, he seemed to pick the team from names out of an hat, Not condoning the players poor performance but it must be frustrating not knowing who your playing with, Hodgeson
was at fault, sounds good in his eyes that he resigned but he was never going to get a new contract anyway.

The next manager should be the most experienced and have won things, don't care if he is not English.
