Watching the repeat now (as BBC has basically becone 'the footballing programme') and Chris Evans is basically a passenger in a car test......and ends up throwing up.

So, he got the job because of his great love of fast cars.......and it appears that he just has too much money and is able to buy them. He has no idea how to drive them (and cannot even hack being a passenger in one). At least the previous presenters (well,
Clarkson and the Hamster) could at least drive high performance cars.

So why exactly did Evans get the job? Simply because he's well placed amongst the BBC hierarchy, for some reason.

Nice to see that he's less involved in presenting this episode though.

Rumour has it that Matt LeBlanc has been asked to do the next series, instead of Shouty Evans.

Great news as far as I am concerned, I much prefere Matt Le Blancs delivery. Apparently he is not being replaced and the remaining team will carry on.

Great news that the shouty one has gone.

Now all we need is to get rid of him from the breakfast show on radio 2.

I agree that Matt LeBlanc was surprisingly good and I'm glad they are keeping him (I did read somewhere that he'd said that he wouldn't do another series of Evans was kept on the show).

Given his bloky persona and lack of political correctness, perhaps Mr Farage might be a suitable shoe-in. Wink

Yes, I'm pleased that Chris Evans won't be back.

Matt LeBlanc comes across as an actor reading scripted lines, but he can ride a motor bike, so not all bad. The rest of the team seem pretty mediocre to me, just wish Sabine was given the chance to show the boys how to drive. She's fast, check out her Nurburgring
    videos on Utube.

Clarkson and co were a hard act to follow, unfortunatly Chris Evans didn't have the spark to carry it off, where does it go now?

I only saw a few of the prgrammes, but it seemed to me that they were spread a bit thin. Too many presenters that I've never heard of and not having time to get known.

I'd try it with Matt LeBlanc, Sabine and one / max 2 others. Maybe Eddie Jordan, to play the 'sensible' role?

In the newspaper headlines today, apparently Evans is to be investigated by the police for something he was alleged to have done many years ago. ----So his leaving the programme may have other reasons than he was a dreadful presenter.

We will have to just wait and see.

It seems to be a particular BBC failing to try and keep things going with new stars or presenters. It rarely works. Just look at New Tricks, it gradually went down hill as one star after another was replaced.

Chris Evans is brilliant at live presenting TFI Friday type shows but that's not what is/was needed for Top Gear.

Keeping to the previous format was IMHO a mistake, that belongs to Clarkson et al.

To be honest, I have no issue with LeBlanc and Sabine is certainly easy on the eye and can drive but I thought the two new chaps were really rather good and should be given a chance to develop their own style.

I  have already bought a Firestick ready for the "Grand Tour"

I read somewhere it was the refusal by the BBC to consider JM for the Top Gear position that he spat his dummy out and resigned from Saturday Kitchen. Perhaps they will now change their mind?

    How the other half live!

Watched an episode of legacy Top Gear with Clarkson Hammond and May -- It was very good. Smile

The new Flop Gear will never match up, no matter who the BBC choose to present it. Frown

Went off James Martin somewhat when I watched a documentary about him entering a classic sports car in the Mille Maglia.

The car cost about £1million and he came across as a rather spoilt and petulant brat.

Why do they need anyone else?? For goodness sake, there are enough of them already (even in the BBC world of doubling up on presenters with every new series of a programme).

Just make Matt LeBlanc the main presenter.

Which is why they made such a mistake by copying the Clarkson formula so closely.

Far better to try something new and different otherwise people will just constantly compare the new with the old.

I couldn't believe how much they copied from the Clarkson version......I was expecting 'all new Top Gear' but they even copied it right down to the jokey style introduction of the Stig.....and even kept the Stig!
