Wallasea Island is across the river Crouch opposite Burnham on Crouch.  It is currently being redeveloped and interestingly is in paternership with Crossrail where all the soil is shipped up from Londom to the site and offloaded to be spread across the site.  The sea wall was deliberately breached in 2006 to allow the tide in. Small numbers of birds around but hopefully the numbers of birds will increase as the project completes.  During the summer a ferry crosses the River Crouch to the Island.

Same sort of thing happened to create the RSPB reserve at Conway when they used the spoil from the road tunnel under the river. Made a very nice reserve.
