Write your comments here...My preference are motorways. Nice wide lanes without scratching from hedgerows, no sharp bends, no roundabouts, no traffic lights, a constant cruising speed without gear changes, which to me is a much more relaxing stress free

I'd honestly pack it in if that was how I had to tour. The whole point for me is to stumble across the unexpected, the quaint, the sleepy hamlets, the tranquil rivers, the basic bars and restos, tootling past vinyards, fields of smiley sunflowers or maize. No
doubt being in a m/h, retired, and making 90% of my travels in France has some bearing on my preferences....but Spriddler, you have three huge advantages over M...
a) youre talking about France
b) like us, you probably dont have a particular agenda, unli,e many who just punch a destination into the satnav and blitz it there without deviation.....
c) you have a MH which allows you to take full advantage of a) and b)

And a solo car a damned site easier than a motorvan. Depends how you work it out
..but when you find a nice village (one you might even liketo stay overnight in) you have to back to the site for your caravan

You're absolutely right BB. I just go down to the Newhaven ferry (15 miles from my home) whenever the forecast looks good and the fancy takes me, usually booking only 24 hrs before and just 'head sort of South' finding sites, aires or wild camping as I go. Never, ever had any difficulty or stress.
Two weeks ago, as an experiment and to revisit childhood holiday places in Dorset I decided to try CC sites for the first time, having previously occasionally used only CLs. What a palaver! Spent about 3 hours trying to book on the website; all CC New Forest sites were full, Hunters Moon Wareham and a couple of other CC sites in the Hants/Dorset/Somerset area were full. I had two nights (a last minute cancellation) at Smedmore (Kimmeridge), two at a virtually empty commercial site just up the road from Hunters Moon. Came home.
And the traffic! In September! Numerous hold-ups on the journey: Chichester, Arundel, Southampton, Poole.....One day I circled Wareham for about an hour trying to park the m/h. I gave up, parked at the Park and Ride at Corfe Castle and took the train to Swanage. I used as much diesel as the return fare of the Newhaven - Dieppe ferry (£125). Never again in U.K.

It was bad at the very beginning of Sept as it was the end of Bank Hol week. A week later and things were quite different. we were away for 3 weeks in Sept and only the first couple of days were busy. The rest of the time most sites had spare capacity and

Can't think of any Village where I would want to overnight in the UK
Horses for courses. 2 hour tow, sandwhich and out local from site for a few hours. 4 days visiting places fairly local and move on.

I didn't mention the fiver to park in a muddy steep field at Lulworth Cove and the £7.50 for a fresh local crab sandwich which was bulked-up about 30% with Shippams Crab Paste - apparently it's also a traditional Cornish wheeze, whispered to me by my unsurprisingly propsperous pal who has two cafes in Falmouth. No wonder they are 'Made fresh to order' out the back where paste jars can accumulate smugly and out of sight.

traffic was fine.ill echo that....we are at Littlehampton....arrived Saturday, warden says only two HS left (not that important as its very dry here 20+ deg outside as i type this at 16:40....)...
then, as expected, a mass expdus on sunday morning and today (weve just got back here) its like a ghost site....pick your own pitch...
so, apart from the weekends, i guess its not too bad...
great for us as we enjoy these extra 'summer' days...

In the spririt of fairness I spent 30 minutes looking at a 2015 Bailey Unicorn Vigo cosmetically it was obvious had very little use
Conclusion if you think that it is as well built as my 2015 Hymer you really need to go to spec savers.

In a word yes they do, alright three words
Our Hymer 590GL has Alde heating including underfloor, a fan assisted convector in the door way and a warming draw
It has a rear bathroom with seperate shower.
Two of the specific criticisms I had of the Bailey Vigo, which is basically the same layout, were as follows. Firstly although the shower was nice and big, the 1 piece shower door opened outwards so any water collected on the door is going to run onto the
washroom carpetSecondly. The convector at the head on the bed is mounted across the hatch. There is no form of protection, It is inevitable in my opinion that it will get damaged, the fins on this in the 2015 bailey which otherwise was in cosmetically as new condition

The knaus starclass range doesn't have alde heating but has the truma zone-able central heating.
Door on uk side, UK spec. Took one of the top places in practical caravans latest awards.
There is a wider range of models in German caravans than people think. Some quite innovative layouts too.

Unfortunetely discussion of the relative merit of British v Continental is likely to become irrelevant as the value of the pound continues to slide against the Euro.
Mind you it is also going to have a impact on British pricing, considering the amount and value of imported components go into a British leisure vechicl

It does not matter how LVs are made , you buy from outside the UK , and some think they are of a "better" build , but they are heavier in comparison, one of the things that the survey does show is people want Lighter vehicles, so where do the manufacturer
next-generation LAs go and still for the UK market put all the latest kit that we all seem to wantI notice that to try to make their vehicles lighter one manufacturer is experimenting with compressed Balsa Wood,

As far a I can tell the interior panelling of our Hymer is Bals wood ply. At least thats what it seems to be where I have drilled holes.
Btw whats the spin on the shower door designed to wet the floor and the Alde convector guaranteed to be damaged because of its position and lack of guard they are in the Alde catalogue

Just took a look hymer 590 the build qulity looks great but the van is a bit small for us

There was a Nova two pitches from us it was smaller than our Genoa but the same weight without the "kit",so
somthin has to giveyes, probably the Genoa, a long time before the Nova

Write your comments here... I admire Knaus, of ALL the european manufacturers they are the only ones who really adapt their designs for the UK market, with Habitation doors on the UK side. Do their motorhomes for sale in the UK have habitation doors on the
correct (nearside) side ? If so, i might be tempted to take a look. Dont tour in Europe, so an offside door is not good for us.0
