I had to think about this dishwashing thing for a while.  What we do, and there may be others who do the same, is wash and dry dishes etc as soon as they are used.  So no pile of dishes to take to the ablutions block at the end of the meal/day.  We would
be running there every few minutes if we were not using sink in the 'van.  Also means we need very few dishes as we can reuse them during the meal.

No, we've got a store room in the van - which just happens to have a shower in it. Not everyone's got one of these huge TA jobs you know! Wink

...+1 Wink our shower is OHs overflow wardrobe and laundry bag for when we get home

Mmm, never understand why some regard their showers as storage areas!

Without our decent shower area, we would not be caravanning.  We can be totally self contained, go where we please, and need take no notice of site facilities.

K - you just said above that you do use site showers! We all enjoy caravanning in our own way surely? We only have a small van and only ever use a small porch awning. There are two of us and the two dogs. If we didn't use the "shower" as a storage area we wouldn't be vanning simple as that.

I can't understand why anyone would try to suggest their chosen way of using their van was more sensible than anyone else's! Happy

I said "when we use the (site) showers", which is not actually that often.

OH needs help with showering, even more so since she had to have a replacement shoulder joint, so sometimes she does use the CC disabled room.

On a serviced pitch we both use our own shower, if the weather is inclement we would use our own shower.  Abroad, OH uses our shower, and I decide whether to use ours or venture out, depending on the quality of the showers.

So if we did not have a shower we could use, we would not be caravanning.

I would not criticise how anyone uses their van, but that does not mean I understand what they do.  You use yours for storage, and wash in a basin rather than showering, that to me seems odd, but it is of course your choice.

I was more thinking of those who never seem to use any of their van's facilities......never use the toilet unless it is a dire emergency, likewise never use the shower, and certainly never cook anything in the oven!

Our history of ablutions so far:

    Small camper........................ Site facilities

    Tents, large and small............Site facilities

First caravan........onboard loo used, no shower, so site shower

Current 32 year old van.........onboard (CL) and site facilities

Current Motorhome...............onboard (CL) and site facilities

We don't limit our options, just make the most of what is there!

But always wash pots onboard, in a bowl, water to site waste.

Will not queue for a shower, life is just too short!Happy

It's a bit like those who recoil with horror at the thought of a 'No.2' in the caravan. I sometimes ponder on the amount of immodium that might, on occasions, be required.

Usually do dishes in the caravan. We don,t use a drainer and simply place a microfibre tea towel type thing on the side dinette table to place dishes etc onto

Personally I do like my home comforts so I have a four berth with fixed bed and a decent shower for just me.  It means that when caught short in the night I can roll out of bed and pop into the next room. I don't have to remember to take anything
with me when I shower as it is all to hand.  I do tend to use the site loos if available simply because it means I don't have to empty my own quite so frequently but not if it is raining or in the night.  Comfort and convenience is my watchword.  As for cooking,
I must admit my stove is very rarely used and when it is it is only to re-heat something.. I'm on holiday so I take a break from cooking and to be honest I would hate to try and cook the kind of thing I like to cook in the so very limited space that caravans
offer as a kitchen. When my wife was alive we always went out to eat as it was meant to be a holiday for her too.

nice and sunny, decent site facilities, stroll to block...however, NOT in a onesie, dessing gown, nightshirtSad...none of which would be present
    anyway in the van....

weather not so warm/dry, it matters not how wonderful the 'block' is (wardens, blocks.....sounds like Porridge....) we will shower in the van....

our clothes, oddly, go in the wardrobes, not the shower...makes showering so much easier and clothes seem easier to find, and  they're drier, tooWink

our bread goes in a over kitchen cupboard, not an oven which (again strangely) gets used for cooking.

the sink in the kitchen is useful for washing......dishes....not people, there is a 'people' sink in the washroom...

...and our toilet gets used for.....toiletting....

i dread to think what inventive 'storage' use some might make of it if they 'only use the block'..

..well, its bound to be something totally not related to a toilet..

lets see....i leave my cassette at home as we 'only use the block'...the void toilet locker makes a great space for storing wine/books/CDs/shoes/or even bread if you dont have an oven?Undecided

and as for a bowl full of crocks being carted around the site? no thanks..is a onesie the default outfit for this operation?.....

Some of us don't choose to BBQ. Never been keen on BBQ food. Very occasionally may use a disposable.

I must totally agree, While people haved posted what their preferred choice is,  I can't believe these people's choices, which really affect no one else, are being disected and openly mocked!

OH uses the block to shower of choice because he prefers the ad lib hot water and better water pressure.  We have a no poo in the loo rule in the van - dont want to be sitting the other side of a thin board wall listening to all the noises and smelling all the smells that are associated with OH doing the full works so we use the onboard loo for liquids only.

Washing up I do in the van unless we run out of hot water - very occasionally will I go to the block for this and we never use the block for food prep as the idea of a communal sink for that just puts me off totally - they are often quite dirty too.  We very rarely sit outside/BBQ so that isnt a problem,  On the odd occasion we have done we just black bin bagged it and took it all home

Been caravanning for over 25 years and never had a BBQ, are these stinking things mandatory?

Anyway, my shower room is  the dogs food room, the wet clothes room, the waste bin room, the hanging towels room, everything but the shower room and we use the sites facility for this including choosing our CL's to include. I'm thinking of shelving it.

Everything else is used in the van, but if I could get a bath in where I could stretch out and have a good soaking, whilst reading a book Cool

The shower cubical is the place for storage of wet, drying, dry towels on a cheap plastic airer, with shower bags, and bathroom stuff, stored on the floor in plastic boxes. The rail gets used for the occasion hand washing.

They are on my pitch. I do try not to let smoke trouble others though. Sometimes it's not possible due to wind direction.

TBH many people come over for a natter when the barbie is going.

They don't bother me Bob Happy I'm just not into BBQ'd food or maybe I can't be bothered, either way it's what most seem to associate with caravanning so I'm easy.

Does seem a lot of faffing around though for a 5 minute eating session, and all those greasy dishes Frown If I was to try it I suppose a disposable might be the way to go, just cook it then chuck it.

My name is not Thor. I cannot control the wind.

I have never had anyone complain on a campsite because if it's windy we wouldn't want a barbie anyway.

We all share campsites and we all have different views. As long as we all realise that and try not to offend others then there are few problems in the real world.

If you really cannot stand barbies in a serious way then consider going for a walk.

Barbies don't smoke for long and campfires and barbies for many people are synonymous with camping

But to go back to the serious comparison.  My girlfriend is terrified of these deluge showers that seem to be fitted in the ablutions blocks everywhere and the 'van was chosen partly for the huge shower with a hand shower head.

You can get showers like that in Yorkshire just by walking around
