Reasons for preferring to use site facilities

I am curious to know why so many caravaners prefer to use the site washing up and morning wash facilities on site rather than use their own sinks in their caravans.  I could understand if they were in a tent but all the facilities are in your caravan so
cant really understand it. I always use my caravan sink to wash up and my bathroom sink to have a wash rather than a shower. Is it because people want to keep their caravans in good condition or don't want to use their water?  Would welcome any comments.

Some people leave the site facilities in a disgusting state. I guess they wouldn't want to make that mess in their vans.

We also find this a little strange, but understand that not all vans have facilities that are ideal.

We bought our current van as it has a huge separate shower, so we prefer to use our own shower, but if you have a small all-in-one wet room, you may well prefer to use site facilities.

Washing up is a bit more difficult to understand, but if you look at the sinks in some MHs, you will see that they are not really practical.

We have noticed this as we are considering buying a MH, and are more than a bit concerned at the size of the kitchen area.

There are some who are scared to use the shower in case they get damp in their van, but we used our 1998 van shower extensively and had no problems.

These days we have an Omnivent in the shower room, so steam is extracted and we have had no problems at all.  We run the Omnivent for 10 minutes after showering, then all is dry in the bathroom.

I prefer my own unless in transit and very tired - but often forget to take something I need with me!

Small jobs of washing up such as breakfast cereal bowls or lunch plates will get done in the van but if I have pots and pans then I'll use site facilities. Even if I preclean a frying pan or a pan that's had a tomato based sure in, there's no way I'd want
the residual grease going down my pipes if I can avoid it.

Of course if staying on a CL ( often the case) then I will use the on board facilities for everythin if nothing else available.

Can't see the problem with using what's out there.

We use the van for washing up most of the time unless we've been entertaining friends and have a lot to do in which case we'll use the extra room at the site wash up area.

As far as washing/showering is concerned we use site facilities (when we're on sites that have them!) We've never once used the shower in the van - with 2 adults and 2 dogs on board it's just used for storage!

Small caravan, no shower, no hot water, no draining board.

We use our own sink for washing pots and pans generally, unless we're directly adjacent to those on a club site. We do use the club's shower and I the wash room. However as we spent most of our time on Cls without showers we use ours much more often than
not. At least we know who's been using it!!

totally agree. We use all our vans facilities and like the op cant understand why folk use someone else's shower, sink, toilet and as for carrying a plastic bowl of crockery to wash up sink the mind boggles

Nope, we'll wash at the sink in the van. Might be a bit whiffy but we can put up with that for a couple of days. Don't tend to stay at non facility sites for more than that at any one time. Remember camping days in fields with no facilities when a wash in a stream or lake was the best you could hope for! Happy

No, we've got a store room in the van - which just happens to have a shower in it. Not everyone's got one of these huge TA jobs you know! Wink

What get's me when people use the site showers, some walk through a crowded public camp site in their dressing gowns. Not much different than walking through the village half dressed.

We always go to the showers (when we do use them) in dressing gowns.  Perfectly covered and nothing interesting showing!  All you might see are my spindly lower legs.

Seems perfectly acceptable in most places, even on CC sites.  Seen plenty going to showers in dressing gowns.

We do however, when using site facilities, always go late at night, so not many around to see us.

I'm just puzzles as to why anyone wants to know how ans what other people do for their oblutions or how and when dishes are washed. It's not my business what others chose to do and nor is it anyone else's business what I chose to do.

Mmm, never understand why some regard their showers as storage areas!

Without our decent shower area, we would not be caravanning.  We can be totally self contained, go where we please, and need take no notice of site facilities.

K - you just said above that you do use site showers! We all enjoy caravanning in our own way surely? We only have a small van and only ever use a small porch awning. There are two of us and the two dogs. If we didn't use the "shower" as a storage area we wouldn't be vanning simple as that.

I can't understand why anyone would try to suggest their chosen way of using their van was more sensible than anyone else's! Happy
